When new entrants to the mobile phone market cannot slug it out with the big boys, they come up with innovative ways to be different, aside from just going the price wars. So this new phone from Intex does not only have a dual-SIM slot but also a pico projector.
While some would look at it as a dual-SIM phone with a built-in projector, I’d look at it as an affordable pico projector that has a phone capabilities (and dual-SIM too). That means it’s not really meant to be primarily used as a phone but as a projector. That way, you won’t miss some of the key features you wanted to be included by default — like WiFi or 3G.
The Intex IN8809 is a candy-bar phone with a small projector on top that makes it a little bulky on the hands (Intex is an Indian company).
Intex IN8809
6cm QVGA display
FM radio
Bluetooth 20
VGA camera
up to 16GB via microSD
2 x 1000mAh Li-ion battery
Dual-SIM
Pico-projector
The projector can display images, videos and MS Office files from the phone to a wall of up to 36 inches in diameter. Not big enough but should be usable when you’re doing presentations for a small group of people (which I think is its target market).
The quality of projection is actually good to decent, depending on the distance from the wall and the ambient light. Will post more samples and videos once I post the full review next week.
The projector is actually a power guzzler so Intex made sure they include an extra battery on top of the 1000mAh Li-Ion on the phone (have not fully tested how long it will last when the projector is running).
We still don’t have a suggested retail price for this one since it’s not yet completely out of the market (you may find some of them in Gilmore or Virra Mall). I am told that it will definitely be under Php10k and could be between Php7k to Php8k (will update once I get the final price).

This is something unique from Intex.
Kenth says:
Nice find sir Abe.
I would wait for a non-phone pico projector from them, it might sell for less than 6k.
Or for the same 6k price it might sport more power and a bigger projected image. :)
Is this a candidate for Yugadeals?
Jepotski says:
6k? Is that for real? Wow! Where can I buy one?
Red Simba says:
Active dual Sim?
Eason says:

A phone with a pico projector at the price of P6K! Indeed, this is an interesting combo! Hope to hear more from yuga’s in-depth review. Em also interested if it can play movies (supported format) from the sdcard.
Rene says:
I am particularly interested on the OS. WHAT IS IT?
Eason says:
from the looks of it, its like MTK OS (China Phone)
Gian Bancod says:
I wonder if I can use it to play and watch movies.. XDD
Xtan says:
WOW!
A portable projector and a phone!
This is very handy if you are into sales marketing as well as simple family gathering, showing off your family photos and videos!
I’ll definitely include this on my list!
Hmmm I wonder what will be the OS of this phone..
But hell, this is a must-have for me! I will be waiting for your in-depth review for this Sir Abe!
nameless says:
Cool. Nice feature. One of the firsts in the market. It would be better if it has an HDMI port to display multimedia from other devices.
GensanBoy says:
This would be perfect if it has Android in it. I bet they have their own os.
Eason says:
Interesting product indeed, it will be useful especially that its affordable and quite functional.
Mini-Projectors today are still in the 13+++ category. Hope this will change the game soon
Bogcess says:
Sweet. I smell mobile presentation.
