Entertainment giant Universal and game developer Ludia have teamed up to make Jurassic World Alive, a mobile game based on the dinosaur franchise, that allows players to collect dinosaurs in augmented reality (AR).
Fundamentally, the game’s mechanics are much to the tune of Niantic’s Pokemon Go; it is location-based, with dinosaurs appearing on the in-game map. Specific types of dinosaurs will only appear in certain areas.
How it differs though, it that as a player, you don’t necessarily have to leave the comfort of your own home. You are able to deploy an in-game drone instead, to collect dinosaur DNA, which you can also use to create your own hybrids.
The AR aspect of the game extends beyond the exploration and capture portion of gameplay. Players will be able to challenge others to dinosaur battles or take AR selfies with their dinosaurs.
Jurassic World Alive is coming ‘this spring’ and will be available for iOS and Android. If you’re interested in the game, you may pre-register here.
