Kata Digital has recently released a new flagship Android phone in the market, the Kata M2, which retails for Php7,999.
We received a unit to check out over the week-end and immediately unboxed it since it’s the first time we’ve had the chance to review a handset from Kata.
The device comes with a huge white box, has a Kata Cloud card voucher worth Php1,200. That entitles the user to an additional 25GB of online storage on top of the initial 5GB free when you activate your account with the handset.
The box also includes an M2 screen protector, a micro-USB charger, Kata M2 smartcase and Smart Bro 3G Sim with Php100 load.
Even at just 5.5-inch, the handset is quite big and hefty on the hands. It is probably the heaviest handset we’ve ever held — close to half a pound (0.47lbs) or 215g. It’s pretty solid and perhaps that metallic body and construction.
Despite the large profile, the device is still very slim at only 7.98mm. The combination of polycarbonate material and metal framing give the M2 that classic industrial look and you can feel the cold-ness of that thick aluminum frame when you hold it in your hands.
The power button and volume rocker are on the right side while the 3.5mm audio port and micro-USB charging port are on the top end. At the back is the 13MP rear camera that protrudes slightly with the LED flash just below it.
The speaker is flushed at the bottom corner with the Kata logo along witt it. The back cover has a matte finish with a textured pattern that resembles that carbon fibre look.
Up at the front are the 5MP front camera ad the capacitive buttons (Settings, Home, Back). The M2 runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with Vanilla UI and very little customization.
Kata added several pre-installed apps like Kata Cloud, Wipe Out, Fish Market (app library) and WPS Office.
Kata Digital M2 specs:
5.5-inch Super HD display @ 720×1280 pixels
Mediatek MTK6582 1.3GHz quad-core prcoessor
1GB RAM
16GB internal storage

WiFi 802.11 b/g/n

A flagship phone made up of nothing but a junk processor from MediaTek? What a fucking joke!
Even Intel’s Atom dual-core processors could fare better than MediaTek’s quad-core pile of shit.
