In a recent discussion with one of the top mobile phone retailers in the country, we talked a bit about Motorola and how they just quietly faded away in the Philippine market for a couple of years now.
If some of you might have noticed, Motorola stores in malls have been closed for a couple of years now and no new handsets have been introduced (despite introducing several new units in the US).
According to my source, it looks like Motorola is planning a comeback to the Philippines and along with it, probably the Android-powered Motorola Milestone (the Droid), among others.
Motorola Milestone
3.7 inches @ 480×854 pixels
ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz
PowerVR SGX530 graphics
133 MB storage, 256 MB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD (8GB included in the box)
HSDPA 10.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP
5MP autofocus camera w/ dual-LED flash
GPS w/ aGPS support
We’re not sure when this will be but we will eventually know once the Milestone has arrived. Some handsets that are sold in Hong Kong are reported to be selling at around Php27,000USD 460INR 39,004EUR 438CNY 3,351 so hopefully, the official release would be around that figure.

MOTOROLA is coming back! Yipeeeeeeee!!! I am such a Motorola fan even before. My first GSM phone is a Motorola phone (I forgot the model of course). My favorite Motorola model was my Motorola RAZR V3i and RAZR V3x.
Please come back Motorola! We miss you!
Jon says:
Wow. IT is about time for them to release this great phone here. So far, I haven’t read bad reviews of this phone.
With regard to Motorola on the decline here, I bet that was because of some quality issues on the unit itself or the battery. I know a lot of people who had Motorolas and mostly complain of such issues. During those times, this brand was quite costly too.
I hope they release this phone at a very affordable price (20-ish range would be great!) hehe, if they really want to stage a comeback. If I had the money, I would buy this one. Qwerty phones!
jade bryan says:
Comeback with what??? That is insane, you cannot recover the loss you made in this country with that device only. Bring the whole moto team here. Blur, cliq etc…sigh…
pabs says:
of course my very first cellphone back in 1996 was a motorola, I can’t remember the model now, but it resembles the ice scraper we used for halo-halo. And my first cellphone line was Piltel, there was no texting then, only phone calls. Oh I miss you motorola…come back….

Great news!

yey support for my milestone! hopefully they will offer milestone accessories..
JayBEsguerra says:
Why is the keyboard layout in QWERTZ instead of QWERTY?
Jhay says:
The last time I saw a Motorola phone is about a month ago from a friend of mine. :P
It’s good to hear from the phone maker again.
cris says:
Yup, Motorola is quite on the run with their Android phones.
And I’m holding my money right now for that Motoroi phone-
Android+ 720p HD video recording+ 8mp camera+ xenon flash+ hdmi+ divx support+ 3.7″ screen+ TV tuner= pure awesomeness.
roiji says:
@cris
yeah motoroi rox!! but good luck that.. it’s available in south korea only hahaha
i do hope moto comes back with a bang! along with phones the US is envious of *cough* motoroi *cough*

I saw a Motorola Milestone displayed at a telecom shop in Trinoma last weekend. Looks really cool with its black exterior but alas, I’m more interested in the upcoming N900 so I didn’t bother asking for the price.
For me it’s Maemo over Android. :)
P.S. Can you please update me Sir Yuga if the N900 is already here in the country? I’m so obsessed in getting that kick-a** phone.
Thanks and I am so much a fan of your blog.
Jehzeel Laurente says:
@JayBEsguerra – oo nga no? If I haven’t read your comment, I will not notice it. Hehehe.
I think that’s Motorola’s future keyboard layout. hehe.
JayBEsguerra says:
@jehzlau. According to Wikipedia, the QWERTZ layout is mostly used in Central and Eastern Europe.
Hopefully, the Asian version will have the usual QWERTY layout, or else, we’ll end up typing like a Jejemon. =))
Arlene says:
Is this similar to the Motorola Devour? :D
pinoypen says:
That is good news. I like Motorola phones for their durability. My first phone was Motorola back in 1994 and till now I have Motorola phone but not my first one LOL. I got one from Ireland.

Motorola lang tumatagal na phone sakin. I’ve had 3 Motorola phones, all three lasting at least 2 years. When my last Moto phone died, i looked for a new one. It’s unfortunate that WX395 is the only model I found. I bought it, though.
leemar says:
meron pa kayo alam na ibang telecom shops na nagbebenta ng milestone? kasi sa memoxpress ang mahal @32,500.00
please inform me. yun telecom shop lang kasi mahirap bumili sa walang pwesto, baka mamaya my defect.

Got the milestone din! Loving it, so far. It’s way better than my lost Spica. Modded it to CyanogenMod 6 (with GOT 2.2.1) although I might flash it again to Cronos… :O
Cons:
Battery life. Pfft.
It DOES heat up – tremendously.

got my new HTC desire phone and a friend of my is using a motorola milestone we both played asphalt 3d game. HTC desire has a faster processor but asphalt game is not as smooth in motorola milestone because of its own GPU unit
Camera of Milestone is superb even without a flash and can get the finest details even with low light from the surroundings. Not over saturated compared to other phones
Screen quality, my HTC desire screen brightness is set to zero, the same with Motorola but the display of Motorola Milestone is superb even with the screen brightness set to zero
Gorilla glass of milestone is really strong, we tried to scratch it with a screw driver but no scrathes at all but im not crazy to do that with my HTC desire
I love my HTC desire but im more comfortable using the motorola milestone because of its superb build quality, looking forward to purchase this phone
The only consequences that my friend encounters is the low battery life and no updates yet with froyo but i think they release it on 2011 1st quarter
N900 doesnt stand up with the motorola milestone. i have an N900 but decided to gave it to my sister after 3 days of use
Benchmark33 says:
I prefer motorola more than other brand…pero nung nag close yung factory nila dito…mahirap nang mag avail ng moto units. Kung meron man, mas mahal. I hope nga talaga Motorla will build a newer factory dito sa Pinas para mabilis and mura ang price nila….plus I agree, matibay at tumatagal talaga ang Motorola…the last Moto phone I use is Motorola Rokr E6 (what I know is the very first touch screen phone released).
gaschamber says:
if Motorola closed their shops here, how will you get after market parts say, when the phone breaks yet still under warranty? No question it’s specs rocks but i’m worried ’bout that basic query..
leemar says:
kelan ba ang release ng froyo dito sa pinas?
eikei says:
@7 bought it at memoexpress, 19990Php, meron din sa wellcom, pero 28K yata don
@gaschamber warranty? don’t worry about that, madaming service center ang moto dito :) minsan pa nga magkakasama ng service center ang moto, sony, and nokia.
@leemar initial release of froyo for milestone here in the philippines is on Q1 of 2011 (that can be january, february, or march)
