Motorola unveils budget Moto E5, E5 Plus, and E5 Play smartphones

Apart from the mid-range G6 line, Motorola also launched a trio of budget devices in the form of the Moto E5, E5 Plus, and E5 Play. Aimed at a more budget-conscious audience, this new trio sport updated specs and the well-known Moto design.

First up is the Moto E5. The device is powered by a 5.7-inch 18:9 HD+ IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microUSB, Android 8.0 Oreo, and a 4,000mAh battery. As for cameras, we get a single 13MP rear with 1.12um pixels and a 5MP front.

Design-wise, we get the more generic Moto design we’ve seen for a number of years now. Sadly, we lost the p2i water-repellant coating that we saw with the G6 line.

Next up is the bigger and slightly better specc’d Moto E5 Plus. Powering the E5’s bigger sibling is a 6-inch 18:9 HD+ IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, Adreno 308 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, microUSB, Android 8.0 Oreo, and a whopping 5,000mAh battery. As for cameras, we get a single 12MP rear with 1.25um big pixels and an 8MP front with 1.12um pixels.

The E5 Plus gets a better looking curved glass body but still with that Moto touch. Thankfully, the p2i water-repellant coating is present on the E5 Plus.

Lastly, the lowest specc’d device of the three, the E5 Play. Powering the device is a 5.2-inch 16:9 HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425/427 processor, Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microUSB, Android 8.0 Oreo, and a 2,800mAh battery. As for cameras, we get an 8MP rear with 1.12um pixels and a 5MP front.

The E5 Play is most generic looking device of the bunch with the Moto design treatment. Interestingly though, like the E5 Plus, it has p2i water-repellant coating.
