Just announced — the Nokia 5230 looks like the old 5800 XpressMusic minus the WiFi feature and it’s not even under the XM series. Besides, the cheaper 5530 XM is already out.
So it looks like Nokia is bringing on the platoon with several full touchscreen phones this year. The 5800XM was still a bit on the expensive end but with the cheaper Nokia 5230 and the 5530XM, things should get interesting.
The Nokia 5230 3.2 inch screen with a resolution of 360×640 pixels and supports handwriting recognition, an accelerometer and proximity sensor. There’s no WiFi but you get 3G/HSDPA 3.6Mbps, AGPS, Bluetooth and FM Tuner. For most phone users, lack of WiFi is a deal-breaker.
Battery is rated at 1320mAh. Internal storage is only 70MB but you can plug in up to 16GB of microSD card.
Coming out at the end of the year, and according to GSM Arena, the Nokia 5230 could fetch somewhere around Php10USD 0.17INR 14EUR 0.16CNY 1 to Php11k.

Reel Advice says:
No wifi = no buy! for me
JCF says:
Phones with support for wifi and 3g is better. That’s how you would appreciate mobile connectivity better.
iSG says:
360×640 pixels? – oohhh I like that. But I think I’ll wait for Aino and Satio.
wha.tm. says:
Wow! a price range between ten and eleven thou. khit walang wifi or 3g ok na. mid range pinoy lang naman ako. kya ok na olrite yan. priced like the samsung star and lg cookie. bring on those touch screen phones.
jdGONEMAD says:
ang girlie naman ng mga kulay.
Jill says:
That’s it! Keep those mid-priced phones coming. Wifi is not such an earthshaking loss if you think about it. 3G/HSDPA’s fine, no problem.
I’m not easily impressed by all the specs trumpeted by those manufactures. They add some features, and boom – we all go gaga. Haven’t they made their minds up yet what a mobile phone should be?
If they would incorporate a microwave oven into one of those devices, then I would really take notice and queue to the nearest store. Imagine running the device over a whole chicken and voila, roasted chicken for dinner! Now, there’s high-tech!
Then I would call my mother, and invite her for barbecues next Sunday.
Boffill says:
Hiyay. Wala nang ibang kulay? :D

i think there is something wrong in the blog…. Just announced, the Nokia 5230 looks like the old 5800 XpressMusic minus the WiFi feature and it’s not even under the XM series. Besides, the cheaper 5530 XM is already out. the 5530 instead 5230….
manong says:
video call feature is important to me so i prefer 3g over wifi if i were to choose. besides, we’re still talking about a phone not a netbook, right? however, it seems n5230 doesn’t have a secondary camera = no video call?
Edgar says:
If this would be released by year’s end yet, would the rest of the pack have their own versions lurking somewhere? You know (hi, manny!!), price, specs and all.
drealmarlon says:
mga tech guys mas maganda ba ito pang internet browser kaysa lg cookie?pwede ba magamit yung sun broadband sim dito para pang internet surf?
emenyueru says:
@Nikon Anthony
I think its correct, yuga is referring to a different phone when he said 5530XM, follow the link to see the phone :)
I think more people will prefer 5530 than this. But the new N900 looks a lot cooler, hope i have the money to buy that

Mark says:
I’m looking forward to have this.
May nakita ako kahapon sa mall, P8,250 kaso hindi ko maalala kung 5530 or 5230. Nakakalito kasi pero I guess it’s 5230 since it’s a bit cheaper than 5530.
I prefer wifi over 3g, but I’ll be needing a wireless router and I don’t have extra money for that so I’ll stick with this one. :D
Andrew says:

Jehgan says:
I had it 6,980.00 nabili ko sa SM North Annex. Nokia warranty, 2gb micro sd. Kaupdate ko lang din ng firmware niya. Kinetic scrolling na sya and improved na din ang kanyang sound quality. Well wala siyang quickoffice at pdf reader pero nakahanap naman ako sa net. So far ok naman performance nya. Di naman siyang naglalag. Nakakastream din ako ng GMA. All in all, it is a decent phone depende lang talaga kung paano gamitin.
Anne says:
Hi jeghan! anong store sa SM North mo binili?
Jehgan says:
@anne hmmm… it think the store was fone style.
