Nokia to launch the Lumia 900 on May 18?

We originally thought this invite was for the much-anticipated Nokia 808 PureView but after some time, I thought the very few clues pointed more towards the Nokia Lumia 900. Check out and help us guess what’s coming on May 18 after the break.

The local invite is still mysterious and kept us wondering. Nevertheless, we are confident though that this invite (Nokia Event – Save the Date! 05.18.12) is for the Lumia 900 and not the Nokia 808 PureView.

All we got from the email is this. What do you think?

After the launch of the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710, the only two other handsets remaining are the Lumia 610 and the flagship Lumia 900.

Incidentally, Nokia is also doing some sort of a 3-day media event dedicated to the Lumia 610.

That leaves the Nokia Lumia 900 for next week. The tiles on the invite posted is our only biggest evidence so far.

  4. Chubbyhowan says:

Apollo hasn’t even been released by Microsoft yet why are you rushing it? Windows haven’t mentioned any of the release people are just speculating a lot from it… It’s just annoying just look at ios5 it took months before it was finally released remember? There were a lot of speculations about it as well. Same goes to the windows Apollo update. Now regarding the 4G on smart, they have a specific list on where the LTE will be functional google the location where 4G network is available you’ll see it there ☺☺☺

    • Jaeson says:

Nah. I’m not excited about Apollo. I’m more of frantic about “it” being the reason owning a half-brick phone for the next year or so.

      That wouldn’t be a nice feeling. :/

I don’t understand the news I read about the decisions on the platform and OS by both Nokia and Microsoft if support for single core phones are non-existent on the next WP OS release. But Paul [Thurott] has never been always right.

Cool, buddy. Yes, hope tomorrow’s a better day.

    • Chubbyhowan says:

Yeah those so-called know at all… I myself have just recently bought a i7 quad-core 8GB ram laptop and had hacked w8 and currently running it. And I’m just going to say this excites me more for the upcoming lumia900. Enough said you sounded a bit excited to me Jaeson for jumping over conclusions, but no hard feelings maybe I just misinterpret your words to someone who acts as if he knows a lot. Oh well cheers for tomorrow cannot wait! Let’s just hope that nokia will now redeem themselves from their competitors ☺☺☺ cheers and God bless!

    • Jaeson says:

PS: Most of the so-called experts, at the end, have predictions that turn out very different from what the final product has to offer.

Anyway, I hope tomorrow would be good news.

    • Jaeson says:

      Hey there!

Being a Microsoft OS beta tester for several years does not surprise me if some feature or functionality is cut off on new OS releases, even for a phone OS release. If you follow Paul Thurott, you’d understand (I’m hoping he would be wrong on what he mentioned).

The importance of having a phone that I could update is similar to my laptop that I have bought 2 years ago, which I can update to Windows 8 via my Technet account and currently on an 8GB memory for my virtual lab needs. The BIOS was not Intel VT capable to my dismay so I had to hack through it.

Since I’m the only person who seems to have mentioned Apollo, I do not understand the part where I’m rushing things.

Before Windows Vista came out, the Pre-beta builds had this Virtual File system that integrates SQL like functionality. That feature, sadly, did not reach a beta and production build.

On anything Pre-Beta, MS does not have any official statement. And even on Beta, any feature or hardware compatibility maybe taken out once Production releases come out.

Yes, Smart Communications does have a list of limited sites with LTE. But given that Nokia PH and Smart does not list an LTE-capable phone I am telling my self right now not to be so hopeful and maybe just be happy with a Dual Carrier HSPA.

But tomorrow’s the 18th. That’s something I’m looking forward to.

      kudos

      ./jrv

  5. SpiderWak says:

based on nokia.com site, the Lumia 900 that will be released here will not be LTE capable.. too bad

    • SpiderWak says:

@Chubbyhowman, the issue is the phone not the 4G network because LTE is not listed in the specs of the Lumia 900 in the Philippines microsite of nokia.com. We’ll see tomorrow. I still hope it’s LTE capable.

    • Chubbyhowan says:

@spiderWak google the 4G location area there are a lot of locations with 4G LTE already ☺

    • SpiderWak says:

      @Chubbyhowan, let’s just hope it’s LTE capable..

    • Jaesonv says:

      Sigh. It’s still non-LTE.

Also, most sites mention a blocked path to an Apollo upgrade.

I do hope they fix that.

    • Chubbyhowan says:

Smart says they will be releasing their 4G LTE network for this device. Well let’s all hope for that to happen :) cheers!

This is a really cool article explaining Windows Phone 7.5 it is recommended that you read it thoroughly.

    Happy reading!

    • Jaesonv says:

Yes, you can’t just say better without really having any basis.

Reading Amazon just makes me drool over this phone – the 900 on an LTE connection.

If we had the 900’s LTE capable release, that’s what’ll convince me more to buy the phone.

I need something that’ll last me at least 2 years and still have it very functional, usable, and capable. My BB sucks with surfing from Globe but it has stood the test I’ve had it gone through like throwing it in the air landing some while in a club drunk and having my ex’s kid sister amused with it when playing games.

      http://versusio dot com/en/nokia-lumia-800-vs-nokia-lumia-900

I’m a technical person and I’m the type who’d most likely avoid game apps. Adobe Acrobat, Evernote, Office 365, and some serious music playing would be all I’m doing plus some occasional shots.

The larger screen appeals to me as well as LTE plus the design and known durability of Nokia. Kudos to their proactive deployment of a hot fix to the battery and connectivity issues.

I was wondering the same thing – how can the 900 perform much better with (essentially) the same innards? Shaking my head at some posters here, misinformation is not a good thing.

I’m not bashing the Lumia however. It is made by Nokia after all, and you know you get your money’s worth when you see how intricately designed and how carefully manufactured the phone is. :)

Actually the design award went to the Nokia N9 Lankku

Nokia N9 wins D&AD Yellow Pencil design award – GSMArena

And the technology award went to the RM-807 excellent camera, which other brands will take at least 5 years to catch up, so this camera will be good for at least 5 years more.

Nokia 808 PureView receives Best Imaging Innovation award from TIPA

Of course, Lumia 900 won awards also.

Give credit to where credit is due. :)

had my nokia lumia 610 for about a week…superb….i think the lumia 900 will be even more impressive….

nokia really does make quality and durable phones that last =)..worth the money….

  10. Eric says:

The Lumia 800 and 900 i think is way to pricey, just so I could have a taste of what the lumia phones can do and what are its advantages over the others, I’ll start off with the 610 or probably the 710.

Anyway what is the advantage of the 710 over the 610? So I could determine which to buy

    • justine says:

The 710 is more powerful than the 610. the 710 has a 1.4ghz processor and 512mb RAM while the 610 has a 800mhz processor and 256mb RAM. that’s just basically the difference. so making the 610 cheaper but also a good deal if you would ask me. because it runs the WP7 OS fluidly.

  11. gurinne says:

Just wait for WP8 since hindi pa confirmed na pwede i-update mga current WP7 phones sa WP8.

  12. hey hey says:

cause im planning to buy a window phone so its either 800 or 900 cause they’re likely the same its just the matter of the design specifics

    • Jaesonv says:

Yes, they are almost the same in terms of memory and processing capability.

What differs would be 900’s feature of a front facing camera, LTE, and a larger battery capacity. Those 3 are what I could readily think off of the top of my head.

Maybe, instead of saying more powerful one could say its more awesome than the 800. Maybe when I get my 800 from Globe, I’d sell it to purchase a 900 or maybe actually get one. :)

    • Zenki says:

Not really. The 900 is more powerful! :)

  13. Romester_Ph says:

900 has a bigger body and screen, it has a front-facing camera, it is a 4G-LTE capable device, and the screen is not curved like the 800’s. It also doesn’t have the magenta variety but has a glossy white variant :)

    • Paolo says:

Twice the speed the HSDPA (a.k.a 3G)

    • GTR says:

Nope. Its not just about the design. No match ang 800 sa performance ng 900! Can’t wait to get myself one.

    • heyhey says:

so basically its more on design innovation for lumia phones??

  14. heyhey says:

whats the difference with lumia 800??? everything is likely the same

  15. Name: chubbyhowan says:

Will this be also release sa smart?!?!?! please oh please!

  16. unggoy says:

What if dual core pa ang lumia ngayon? :D

    • Jaesonv says:

Mahirap yan. Baka lumipad yung phone. Single core pa lang oks na how much more multicore set-up. :)

Pero sad kasi I’ll be getting a lumia by end of H1 2012.

  17. Romester_Ph says:

True. Actually, sa mga hands-on tests, may slight lags pa rin sa S3, not to mention that it already has 4core proc.

  18. karl says:

Mga sir, hindi kailangan ng nokia lumia 900 ang dual core/quadcore, kasi windows is very smooth compared to android, android needs dual core/quadcore to be smooth!

  19. Zenki says:

^ Really guys…. Your kidding right? It so big also sa Eu and U.S. Meron na ba talagang 900 or may 18 pa talaga?

    • reikoku says:

may 18 launch lang siguro. a few more days siguro bago general availability.

  20. Romester_Ph says:

^Pareho tayo sir. Pero as per the Nokia Store reps, especially from the Boni High Street branch, sabi nila marami daw tumatawag everyday to ask for the 900’s availability. Oh well xD

  21. www.mybluetoothearbuds.com says:

I am looking forward to this phone, but I think I am the only one I know who is excited.

  22. montesako says:

in Nokia Lumia in SM Megamall, ang binebenta nila ay lumia 610 at lumia 800.ang price ng lumia 610 ay nasa 10k plus. pag sa lumia 800 nasa 23k.

  23. Jake says:

been looking for a WHITE Lumia 800. Sabi sa nokia store sa Megamall Cyan, Black and Pink lang available :( Where can I uy a white Lumia 800? :(

  24. Allan Ray Restauro says:

I went to nokia store trinoma and offered na po dun ang Lumia phones, all of them in fact, Wala nga lang price for 710 kasi naka lock pa daw sa smart. Yun ang sabi sakin nung salesman.

  25. jobber says:

At sino naman bibili nito ng 29k? Makakabili ka na ng Samsung Galaxy Note, HTC One X and soon Samsung Galaxy S3 for that price.

    • GTR says:

Hahaha. Madami sir. Worth it ang price na to, it performas at par or better with the best smart phones in the market. I own the new iPad but wants my phone to be a windows one instead.

    • Romester_Ph says:

  26. jobery says:

Sino naman bibili nito ng 29k? Makakabili ka na ng Samsung Galaxy Note, HTC One X and soon Samsung Galaxy S3 for that price.

  27. emansky says:

i’ve been using windows phone(HTC Mozart) and i love it. use it as hotspot email. its been my only phone and cant see myself using any other.. when lumia 900 came nakita ko na ipapalit ko sa phone ko. i love the 4G LTE capability yey!!!
sana mura lang tong phone na to

    • Jaesonv says:

so sad… wlang LTE-capability ung 900’s released here. Smart’s website does not mention LTE for the 900’s

    • GTR says:

Around 30k siya. :) Have the same thought as you. Excited to get one myself.

  28. Zenki says:

^ It will lalo na dito, endorse ni Kris eh. Lol.

  29. Bip says:

I would really like to try it but I don’t think it will revive Nokia’s sales.

  30. kim says:

LOOK at the signature tiles of Lumia Abe

  31. Zenki says:

Been waiting for this, best online selling phone! So really? Available na to sa nokia greenbelt?? Yep expected price of this was around 30k.

  32. Van Allen says:

29k nokia lumia 900 accrding sa nokia store in greenbelt

  33. anonymous says:

Worried ako kasi ewan kung magkakaroon ng 1yr warranty sa nokia if ever manggagaling sa ibang retail stores, and if and only if na magkaroon ng problem ang mga 808 they should at least know how to troubleshoot it, kya pano nalang kung ndi nila irerelease yun…

Ps: papilit nman sila sir yuga if ever na ayaw nila, we want that cameraphone… Tska ang mga pinoy mahilig sa pirata este sa pamamasa ng kung ano ano gamit ang bluetooth file sharing ng mga phones na wala naman sa lumia and i think majority likes the 808 pureview behind it…

  34. leo says:

    • Roegan Taron says:

specifications? You’re kidding right? It’s one of the least impressive smartphones when it comes to specs.

  37. lebot says:

Kung 21k ang Lumia 800, then at least 25k itong Lumia 900. Wala naman apps and games.

    • Romester_Ph says:

Dun sa isang store na natawagan ko, they’re selling the 800 for 23,990; and 29,990 daw yung benta nila ng 900 when it comes out.

  38. Jordan says:

I think Lumia 900, pero I’m a little skeptical kasi hindi pa available nationwide yung 4G LTE..

    • Romester_Ph says:

Well there were reports that the 900 would be released in some countries as non-LTE capable devices. I guess that would be true para sa Pinas hehe.

  39. tomoh says:

Slightly less attractive yung Lumia 900 sa Lumia 800 kasi raised yung screen niya.

    • Romester_Ph says:

I agree. Tsk tsk tsk…

  40. reikoku says:

definitely the lumia 900 with all those tiles lol
