Display
You can expect the two devices to deliver a great visual experience thanks to their large AMOLED screens. However, the Red Magic 6s Pro advances with a higher 166Hz refresh rate as the ROG Phone 5s Pro comes with 144Hz. A higher refresh rate gives a more buttery-smooth experience for applications and games.
Moreover, the Red Magic 6s Pro also has a 720Hz touch sampling rate, providing more advantages in competitive gameplays.
When it comes to protection, both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Nonetheless, the ROG Phone 5s Pro has the newer and tougher Victus, dubbed the toughest Gorilla Glass yet. According to Corning, the Gorilla Glass Victus survived drops onto hard, rough surfaces from up to 2 meters, and it has 4x better scratch resistance than competitive aluminosilicate.
Processor
Both Red Magic 6s Pro and ROG Phone 5s Pro carry Qualcomm’s most advanced processor yet— the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G SoC paired with Adreno 660 CPU, so we can expect equal performance on both.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888+ 5G delivers flagship experiences with intelligent entertainment, including AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and the like– backed by boosted performance, unrivaled speed, and premium connectivity.
RAM and Storage
The ROG Phone 5s Pro takes the cake for both RAM and Storage.
The Red Magic 6s Pro offers three RAM options — 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB. The ROG Phone 5s Pro, on the other hand, comes only in a larger 18GB. When it comes to storage, the former has 128GB and 256GB, while the latter has a larger 512GB.
While having the largest RAM and storage configuration is great, having a smaller RAM and storage option allows the manufacturer to offer the device at a lower price. We’ll know more about that, though, when both devices have launched in the country.
Cameras
Both smartphones offer triple rear cameras with main, ultrawide, and macro sensors. Both have the same 64MP (main) and 2MP (macro) sensors. They only differ in the ultrawide lens; the Red Magic 6s Pro has 8MP, whereas the ROG Phone 5s Pro comes with a higher resolution 13MP.
When it comes to selfies, the Red Magic 6s Pro has an 8MP front camera, while the ROG Phone 5s Pro has a higher front camera resolution at 24MP.
Connectivity and Other Features
The two are pretty much equal in terms of connectivity and other features. Both have 5G connectivity, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, multi-band SatNavs, dual-SIM, dual-speakers, extra touch keys, and RGB lighting. For security, however, both smartphones sport in-display fingerprint scanners. Both smartphones also come with a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Cooling
Gaming smartphones indeed generate a lot of heat. So it’s a good thing that both come with their own cooling technology.
It’s an advantage for the Red Magic 6s Pro, though, as it comes with the ICE 7.0 multi-dimensional cooling system with a built-in turbofan. The ROG Phone 5s Pro, however, cools itself using an accessory called the Aero ActiveCooler 5, which blows air at the device’s back.
Battery
The ROG Phone 5s Pro comes with a larger battery capacity of 6,000mAh than the Red Magic 6s Pro’s 4,500mAh (Chinese version)/5,050mAh (International version).
Despite that, the Red Magic 6s Pro (Chinese version) is expected to replenish its juice almost twice faster with its 120W fast charging support. However, its international version offers an equal charging rate as the ROG Phone 5s Pro at 65W.
Which one to get?
It’s quite a challenge to choose between the nubia Red Magic 6s Pro and ASUS ROG Phone 5s as they have their own advantages.
Nevertheless, you may take note that picking the Red Magic 6s Pro gives you the benefit of a higher 166Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate, a built-in cooling system, and a more powerful charging rate (for the Chinese version).
Getting the ROG Phone 5s Pro, though, gives you a more protected display, a larger RAM and storage, a better camera for ultrawide shots and selfies, as well as a massive battery capacity.
For sure, choosing between the two would also be much easier once we knew their local price tags. After all, a device with a lower price also becomes a more attractive option. So we’ll see!
