As flagship devices, we can see both devices sporting excellent displays. However, the OnePlus 8 Pro wins in terms of resolution, higher refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass protection. The display on the Huawei P40 Pro is not that bad, but if you want the best viewing experience possible, go with the OnePlus.
Huawei’s P series is known for its cameras, and it doesn’t disappoint even when facing the OnePlus 8 Pro. It has a higher main camera resolution, a higher telephoto camera resolution with a better zoom range, and a ToF camera for portraits shots with nicer background blur. It also has a better front camera with a higher resolution, auto-focus, and IR depth sensor.
For the OnePlus 8 Pro, it’s also good and only edges the P40 Pro in the ultra-wide camera resolution. Again, this device has a great set of cameras but not on the same level as the Huawei flagship. We’ll know once DXOMark releases its review.
Powering both devices are flagship chipsets from their respective manufacturers. The OnePlus 8 Pro has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, while the Huawei P40 Pro has the HiSilicon Kirin 990. Both sport 5G modems. We can expect excellent performance from both devices, but we’ll know which one will produce better benchmark scores once we have both devices for review.
In terms of RAM capacity, the OnePlus 8 Pro wins for having a 12GB option, while the Huawei P40 Pro maxes out at 8GB. When it comes to storage, both have 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.0, however, the P40 Pro’s is expandable using an NM Card.
When it comes to battery, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a slightly larger capacity at 4,510mAh, compared to the Huawei P40 Pro’s 4,200mAh. When it comes to their charging technology, the P40 Pro has a more powerful fast charging. The OnePlus 8 Pro, on the other hand, has a faster wireless charging. Both support reverse wireless charging. We’ll know about their batter life once we have both devices for review
The two devices are pretty much identical when it comes to basic features except for a few things. The OnePlus 8 Pro has Haptic Vibration 2.0 tech and dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. The Huawei P40 Pro, on the other hand, has an IR Blaster.
Which one should you get?
If you’re looking for a more rounded device with an excellent display, bigger battery, and can perform well in almost all aspects, the OnePlus 8 Pro is the one to get. But if you’re looking for a device with the best cameras in town, get the Huawei P40 Pro.
The Huawei P40 Pro (8GB + 256GB) is priced at PHP 50,990. The OnePlus 8 Pro is yet to be available in the Philippines but we can expect Digital Walker to bring it in the country soon.
