OPPO F1 Plus hands-on, first impressions

OPPO has just launched in the country the OPPO F1 Plus, the twin of the OPPO R9 Plus that was launched in China. It’s a sleek 5.5-inch smartphone with a 16 megapixel front camera, MediaTek octa-core CPU and 4GB of RAM. Find out our initial thoughts about it below.

We now have two smartphones from OPPO tagged as the Selfie Expert – the OPPO F1 and OPPO F1 Plus, the latter is the bigger and more powerful sibling. Despite the name, the F1 Plus is not identical to the F1 which is evident, not only in it’s size, but in the design and specs as well.

Sitting up front is the 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution or 401ppi. Unlike the F1 with IPS LCD, the F1 Plus sports AMOLED but with the same Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Placed above it are the speakers, sensors, and the highlight of its show – the 16 megapixel front camera with a 1/3.1-inch sensor.

Down below are the capacitive navigation keys and the physical home button that also doubles as a fingerprint scanner.

On the left side are the volume keys, while on the right are the power / lock button and the dual-SIM tray. Do note that the SIM 2 also works as a microSD card slot so you can either have dual-SIM or single-SIM plus microSD depending on your needs.

Down at the bottom we have the microUSB port, microphone, loudspeaker, and the headset jack, while up top is the secondary microphone.

Flip it on its back and you’ll find the 13 megapixel PDAF camera, LED flash, a pair of antenna bands, and the OPPO branding.

Although the design is reminiscent of the iPhone 6/6s, the OPPO F1 Plus looks sleek and feels premium on the hands thanks to its metal unibody chassis with chamfered edges. It’s also thinner than the F1 at 6.6mm (vs 7.3mm). Add to that the curved glass on the front which blends well with the rest of the curved frame, makes the F1 Plus enjoyable to hold.

As for the rest of the specs, the OPPO F1 Plus is powered by a MediaTek MT6755 octa-core CPU and 4GB RAM. Storage starts at 64GB. Running the software department is ColorOS 3.0 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The battery is not that impressive at 2,850mAh but it supports OPPO’s VOOC Flash Charge.

OPPO F1 Plus specifications:
5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, 401ppi

Specs wise, xiaomi’s redmi note 3 pro @ 11-12k is much better than this overpriced iphone wannabe. Snapdragon 650 wins over helios p10. And both are metal bodied as well
