Performance and Benchmarks

The 64-bit R7 Plus proudly carries Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 processor with 8 cores, partnered with 3GB of RAM. Graphics-wise, an Adreno 405 GPU is in charge which proved to be adequate for the tasks we used it for. As an everyday device, it was able to handle browsing the internet, photo editing the shots we took, emailing, and even some casual gaming once in a while — all without breaking a sweat.

There were very minimal lags when a number of apps were simultaneously open and we tried to switch back and forth. Other than that, everything was a smooth sailing affair and we had no significant gripes using it as a main phone.

Here are the benchmark scores for comparison’s sake:

  • AnTuTu: 36,911
  • Quadrant Standard: 22,444
  • Vellamo: 1,169 (Metal), 1,749 (Multi-core), 2,411 (Browser)
  • 3DMark: 271 (Sling Shot ES3.0)
  • PCMark: 3,701

Connectivity and Call Quality

The R7 Plus supports dual-SIM with dual-LTE functions. Using the device and its data connectivity, we were able to access the internet easily and was able to fetch data with no problems. Just like others, the speed of surfing depends largely on location, so there were also times that it had a challenging time when loading pages.

Calling other people resulted to good quality thanks to its microphone with built-in ANC that cancels out unwanted noise from the surroundings. In addition, other connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.0 for pairing to different devices, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Wi-Fi hotspot.

Battery

In order to power its 6-inch display and still have enough juice to fully take advantage of its capabilities, OPPO has equipped the R7 Plus with 4,100mAh of Lithium Polymer battery. What makes this special is that it features the company’s VOOC fast charging technology which is reportedly faster than Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0.

Running our usual battery benchmarking app, it was able to last 10 hours and 26 minutes of performance. On the other hand, we also did an HD video loop test with Airplane mode on and volume and screen brightness at 50%. We exhausted its battery from a full 100% until it died and set its record with an impressive 19 hours and 31 minutes of continuous play time.

Charging the device, we were able to get about 42% of its 4100mAh capacity in an hour’s time.

Conclusion

OPPO’s R7 Plus is an all-around solid performer. It belongs to the mid-range category, but we sometimes forget that due to its premium look and smooth performance. We used it for quite a while and we came across a fluid experience of gliding from app to app, took detailed shots with natural colors using its camera, and used the phone for up to 2 days on a single charge.

The implementation of its curved display also steps things up a bit and adds to the charm of the device, although we experienced some unwanted glares rather easily once the device was taken outside.

If you’re looking for a smartphone that has the characteristics of a flagship phone without stepping into the Php30K price range, the R7 Plus will be a good consideration at Php21,990USD 375INR 31,767EUR 357CNY 2,729. As of now, it is only purchasable through Lazada but is available nationwide.

    • Actually…. mas madali mag navigate dati site yugatech….

  2. ‘Although due to its large physique’. You can drop the ‘although’ there. Sir.

  3. Pity Oppo customer service is so appalling-nice phone -looks good but ultimately well behind in spec to current Sony-Samsung phones

  4. Ganda.

  5. Sorry for the off-topic post but Yugatech’s layout has been messed up for several days already. The layout is broken on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer on PC. It may be looking great on mobile browsers but you really have to check it using a PC or Windows laptop.

  6. hi yuga, can you please create a comparison between Oppo r7 plus vs lg g4 and samsung note 5 (or in any other flagship phones).. thanks

  7. R7 plus is a very nice phone. I have this and I really enjoyed over my note 5 ang tagal kasi malowbat at mabilis din sa data net.
