OPPO is set to launch two new smartphones on March 18, the Reno7 5G and the Reno7 Z 5G. These are premium mid-range devices packing large AMOLED screens and triple-rear cameras. But what we have right now is the former, sporting a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset. Check our hands-on below.
One of the first things, you’ll notice about the Reno7 5G is its slim and premium design. It has this smooth, metallic frame that merges almost seamlessly with the bezel and the back panel. It comes in two colors — Starlight Black and Startrails Blue. Our unit is the latter.
The front is dominated by the 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. A screen protector is already pre-installed on top of the Gorilla Glass 5, so you won’t have to worry about minor scratches. Found on the upper left corner is the hole punch for the 32MP selfie camera. Right in the upper bezel is the earpiece.
On the left side, we have the triple-card tray for two nano-sized SIM cards and a microSD card, and volume buttons.
While on the right is the power/lock button. The buttons are easily reachable as they’re placed near the middle of the frame. They’re firm and clicky as well.
Up top is the secondary microphone, while down at the bottom are the 3.5mm audio port, main microphone, USB-C port, and loudspeaker.
Flip it on its back and you will see this beautiful curved back panel with a frosted glass texture. It’s very effective in repelling fingerprints and smudges. You’ll also see different shades of blue, green, gold and pink depending on the angle.
Found on the corner is the protruding camera module where the cameras look like they’re floating on a piece of glass. It consists of the 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro.
The Reno7 5G is a pretty tall device at 160.6mm, but since the frame is narrow at 73.2mm and relatively slim at 7.81mm, it’s easy to grip, although you’ll definitely need to use both hands to navigate it comfortably.
Powering the Reno7 5G is a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G with an octa-core CPU, Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, 8GB RAM with up to 5GB RAM Expansion, 256GB of storage, 4,500mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC, and ColorOS 12 based on Android 11.
The OPPO Reno7 5G will launch in the Philippines on March 18. We’ll post about its price, availability, as well our full review at that time so stay tuned.
