OPPO Reno8 5G Hands-on

OPPO is set to launch in the Philippines its new Reno8 series and one of them is the OPPO Reno8 5G, sporting a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen, Dimensity 1300 chipset, and 50MP triple-rear cameras. Here are our initial thoughts.

OPPO is known for producing smartphones with attractive designs, even for its mid-range offerings. The Reno8 5G is no exception.

It has a metallic frame with flat sides and curved corners. The finish is similar to sandblasted so it has this fine texture that helps with the grip and repels fingerprints.

Enclosed in that frame is a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Placed on the upper left is the hole punch for the 32MP selfie camera. Covering it is Gorilla Glass 5 with a pre-installed screen protector.

Placed on the left of the frame are the volume buttons, while on the right is the power/lock button. They’re tactile, firm, yet quiet. They’re easy to reach as well as they’re placed at the center of the frame.

Up top is the secondary microphone, then down at the bottom are the loudspeaker, USB-C port, main microphone, and nano-sized dual-SIM card slots.

Flip it on its back and you will see the triple-rear cameras and LED flash. The camera module and lenses are large and protrude, but like the camera module in the Find X5 Pro, they made the edges slope with the rest of the back panel.

The back panel is also one of its main features. Our model comes in Shimmer Gold that, well, shimmers in pastel colors with micro glitters. The panel has this frosted finish so it repels fingerprints and smudges well. It also has a fine texture so it feels good in the hands. For a mid-range device, it feels almost like a flagship.

Powering the Reno8 5G is a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset with a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It runs on ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12. For the battery, it has a 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging.

The OPPO Reno8 5G will launch on September 1. The price is yet to be announced so stay tuned.
