OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G w/ Dimensity 8100-Max Hands-on

A few months after the launch of the Reno 8 5G, and Reno8 Z 5G in the Philippines, OPPO will soon release their big brother, the Reno 8 Pro, sporting a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, 50MP rear camera, and Dimensity 8100-Max chipset. Read our initial thoughts below.

The Reno 8 Pro 5G has similarities to the Reno8 5G in terms of design. The difference, though, is that the Pro model has a more refined design.

For starters, the 6.7-inch display has slimmer bezels with equal thickness (no chin) and has more squarish corners, making the screen look more immersive. The 32MP front camera hole-punch is also positioned in the center, instead of the left side. Placed above it is the earpiece.

Placed on the left side are the volume buttons.

On the right is the power/lock button. These buttons are placed near the center of the frame, so they’re easy to reach. They’re also clicky and premium.

Placed at the top are the loudspeaker and microphone.

Down at the bottom are the dual-SIM card slot, main microphone, USB-C port, and loudspeaker.

Flip it on its back and you will see the large camera module with a design similar to the one found on the Find X5 Pro with edges sloping toward the rest of the back panel. The module houses the 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro and LED flash. You will also see a marking that the cameras are powered by OPPO’s MariSilicon.

Looking into the quality of the device, the Reno 8 Pro definitely looks and feels premium. The metal frame has this sandblasted finish and is cool to the touch. The backside is mounted with glass, and like the Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, blends almost seamlessly to the edge of the frame.

The Reno 8 Pro is also a joy to hold given its 74.2 mm narrow frame. And even though it’s clad in metal and glass, it’s light at 183g. I would prefer using it without the case on if it weren’t for the smudge-magnet back panel.

Powering the Reno 8 Pro is a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max chipset with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.85GHz, a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU, 12GB of RAM with up to +12GB RAM expansion, 256GB of storage, 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging, and ColorOS 13 based on Android 13. We’ll talk about its performance in our full review.

The OPPO Reno8 will soon launch in the Philippines. Stay tuned for the price and availability.
