POCO X4 Pro 5G Hands-on

Late last month, POCO released two smartphones in the country, the POCO X4 Pro 5G with Snapdragon 695 5G, and the POCO M4 Pro with Helio G96. What we have is the former, priced well under PHP 20K. Check our initial thoughts about the device below.

The POCO X4 Pro 5G seems like a huge device, standing at 164.19mm and 76.1mm wide. That’s understandable considering the large 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED 120Hz screen on the front. Protecting it is the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It’s got a hole punch top for the 16MP selfie camera, and right above it in the bezel is the earpiece.

On the right side, there are the volume buttons and the power/lock button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner. They’re easy to reach as they’re placed near the center of the frame.

At the top of the frame, we have the 3.5mm audio jack, loudspeaker, main microphone, and IR blaster.

At the bottom, there’s the card tray for two nano-sized SIM cards and a microSD card in a hybrid setup, USB-C port, main microphone, loudspeaker.

At the back, we have this huge protruding camera module with the POCO branding, housing the 108MP main, the 8MP ultra-wide, and the 2MP macro.

When it comes to quality, the POCO X4 Pro 5G feels premium thanks to the metal frame and glass back. It’s solid, cool to the touch, and is IP53 dust and water-resistant.

The flat sides give it an edgy texture when gripped, while the back panel produces this criss-cross effect depending on the angle. It’s glossy though, so fingerprints and smudges may build up over time.

Powering the POCO X4 Pro 5G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G SoC with an octa-core CPU, an Adreno 619 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. Battery-wise, we’re getting a 5,000mAh tank with a fast 67W charging. For software, there’s MIUI 13 for POCO based on Android 11.

The POCO X4 Pro 5G is now available at Lazada and Shopee and is priced at PHP 16,990 for the 6GB + 128GB model and PHP 17,990 for the 8GB + 256GB. Stay tuned for our full review.
