We have some good news if you held out on buying the POCO X4 Pro 5G last year. The company has just launched the new POCO X5 Pro 5G. The X5 Pro 5G may look somewhat similar to its predecessor on the outside, but POCO did make some significant changes under the hood. Read on and we will give our initial thoughts on this new phone.
Let’s start with the design and quality. The phone still feels big and that’s mainly because of the screen which measures 6.67 inches. It’s an AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. Not to mention the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. At the top center, there’s still the front camera punch hole.
The screen looks nice and the backlight is quite bright. The high refresh rate also makes the screen feel nice to use even when just scrolling on social media or through the menu. But it is especially best when watching videos or playing games.
While it might be big, the phone is quite thin, measuring only 7.9mm. This makes it easy to fit in your pocket and easy to hold as well. Despite its size, it does have a good weight – not too heavy and not too light that it feels flimsy.
There are no buttons on the left side, but you will find the volume buttons and the power button which doubles as a finger print scanner on the right.
Up top, there’s a loudspeaker, pinhole mic, and the 3.5mm audio jack.
Below, you will see the USB-C port, another loudspeaker, and the dual-sim card slot.
Flip it over, and you can see one of the big changes from the X4 Pro – the camera. It still uses a triple camera system like before with the large “POCO” logo on the side. However, it does have a new lens design featuring two large lenses and a smaller one to the side. We think redesigned camera housing looks better as it gives the phone a cleaner design.
Speaking of the camera, the POCO X5 Pro features a 108MP main lens, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera. Meanwhile, the front camera uses a 16MP lens. The video records at a maximum of 4K@30FPS, meaning more high-resolution videos. Just mind the space that it takes up.
Overall, the phone feels nice to use and the build quality feels nice. However, the back panel does feel plasticky. The only upside is that you won’t leave too many hand prints when using the X5 Pro without a case.
Powering the POCO X5 Pro is a Snapdragon 778G chipset and an Adreno 642L GPU. Depending on the variant, the phone is available with either 6GB RAM with 128GB storage or 8GB AM the 256GB storage. Both of which come with Dynamic RAM Expansinon3.0; the 8GB/256GB variant can expand RAM by an additional 5GB. As a result, this should make it very capable of playing games like Mobile Legends and CoD Mobile. We also expect this to handle more graphic-intensive titles like Genshin Impact and the like.
Battery-wise, the X5 Pro packs a 5000mAh battery and comes with 67W fast charging. It runs on MIUI Global 14 which is based on Android 12.
The POCO X5 Pro is now available with two variants – 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB. The 6GB+128GB variant retails for PHP 16,999 while the 8GB+256GB model costs PHP 18,999.
However, there is an early bird promo for the first 1500 units sold which runs until February 13. If you get the early promo, the 6GB+128GB variant costs only PHP 15,659, while the 8BG+256GB variant PHP 17,659.
Stay tuned for our full review of the POCO X5 Pro coming soon which will include the benchmark scores, gaming review, and more.

I thought an amoled screen does not need a backlight.
