The handset runs on Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair) and should be more widely available in stores.

  15. CK says:

many stores claim its upgradable to 2.2, is this really true?

  16. Sam says:

is that true that galaxy 5 is upgradeable to 2.2? thanks

  17. John says:

I saw in most stores na may sign na upgradeable daw ang Galaxy 5 to Android 2.2 (Froyo). Totoo po ba yun Sir Abe? We have to be sure, you know. Thanks!

  18. chl says:

Abe, can you comment on the screen? I was told the screen quality while good enough, is really very different from the pack at the higher end.

  19. johnny suyom says:

wala ba talaga backlights ung keys?

  20. rnas says:

Sir abe, do u hav an idea if galaxy 3 will be released locally? TIA

  21. Tin says:

Yun na ba pinaka mababa price? mga 11K?

  22. patrick says:

galaxy 5 review pls sir yuga

  23. simplynice93 says:

@sony: Meron na ito sa Robinson’s Ermita. They sell it at P12,900. Kung malapit ka lang, punta ka na lang dun.

  24. simplynice93 says:

  25. sony says:

Which store offers that price? I checked Samsung Glorietta yesterday and they’re selling it at 13,400++

  26. bench says:

mas gusto ko htc tattoo..meron nadin update sa 2.1 after..HTC confirmed it..

  27. mike says:

i will wait for the 4G (non-GSM) Android phone.

That’s the real deal. Voice over IP. Call through the internet.

  28. tc says:

@sir abe – “Torque Mobile has an Android with Dual-SIM. Watch out for that soon.” — this could be interesting, it could kill all competition, a true affordable Android phone, if they’ll sell it below 10k.

  29. breeze says:

Sir Yuga possible ba magupgrade ng Android sa Philippines? May nabasa kasi ako wala daw flash support yung galaxy 5 pero pag naupgrade sa Froyo meron na. Thanks!

  30. raldge says:

bring spica to 10k barrier pls.. :D

  31. dawnripper says:

this is it :) the corby-android!

  32. kahitanoito says:

@simplynice93: i think htc smart lacks an important feature – wifi capability.

for me, i would then prefer this phone over smart.

  33. simplynice93 says:

This looks like a corby that has htc tattoo’s buttons. I’m having difficulty on what to buy: htc smart or this phone. Hope sir abe makes a full review of this phone.

  34. jeff says:

sir ff-up no downsides ng x10 compare s galaxy s, xcept s-amoled screen tsaka version os?ty

    • Abe Olandres says:

@jeff -internal storage is only 1GB compared to the 8/16GB of Galaxy S

  35. jeff says:

    sir ang s at@t is it i or a?
    ty

  36. Abe Olandres says:

@kahitanoito – would still go for the Spica.

    @jeff – it’s the X10i. that’s the one I’m using.

@boring – Torque Mobile has an Android with Dual-SIM. Watch out for that soon.

  37. jeff says:

off topic: sir yuga anong version ng x10 ung gagana ang 3g sa pinas x10a or x10i? gagana ba ung version ng at@t? ty

  38. boring says:

what else is new? this is the same phone with a smaller LCD. What we need is a dual-sim and affordable Android phone.

Get that Samsung. Dual-sim Android phone!

  39. idlewild says:

i don’t think this will kill the spica. i for one would still pick the spica over this one.

  40. Jhay says:

Wow, all that plus Android 2.1 for 10k? It’s great bargain!

  41. lawrence says:

this has qvga screen resolution which somehow limits the number of android apps u can install with it. spica has hvga which supports most apps on the android market..

i dont think it will kill spica specs wise. at tsaka pamura na ang spica, u can get it for 12-13k nalang..

  42. Tiger says:

Hi! When will open line Samsung Galaxy S be in stores? I don’t like locked ones.

  43. dongv says:

cheaper, break the 10,000 pesos barrier

  44. Angelo says:

A review of this phone would be great. Thanks.

  45. Calvin says:

oo nga. will this kill the spica?

  46. Eason says:

Well I think this is better than the LG Optimus, considering the Optimus only runs on Android 1.6

  47. kahitanoito says:

    Sir Abe,

Which is better Galaxy 5 or Galaxy Spica?

Would you know if these phones are capable of v2.2?

  48. Abe Olandres says:

Yup, it’s Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair)

  49. Jon says:

Hats off to you Samsung for bringing Android to the masses.

@Sir Abe, any idea what version it runs? I hope at least 2.1
