Samsung Galaxy S20 price drop prediction

The Samsung Galaxy S20 launched just this month (with a March 6 release), and the company has released the pricing for the Philippines. If you’re one of those who are waiting for a price drop, we have a prediction below.

The prediction is based on the research and data provided by the iPrice Group. The company tracked the prices of the three previous Samsung Galaxy S-models: S8, S9, and S10.

Using their database of hundreds of merchants and online stores, they collated Samsung’s price list  and obtained the average minimum price of the three models after six months and after a year from their release dates.

They predict that the Samsung Galaxy S20’s price may drop by 21% after 6 months. So, if the launch price of the S20 is PHP 49,990, the price may drop to an estimate of PHP 39,492. The price is expected to drop further by 35% after a year or PHP 32,494.

iPrice said that they were able to conclude the prediction from these three insights:

  1. The average price drop of S8, S9, and S10 6 months after the release date is 21%. After 6 months, Samsung Galaxy S8’s price dropped at 22%, S9’s at 24%, and S10’s at 18%. Therefore, the average price drop of this flagship model is 21%.
  2. Samsung Galaxy S10 dropped as much as 45% a year after its release. Samsung Galaxy S10’s price significantly dropped a year after its release date. Its original price last year was PHP 49,990, and the average minimum price you could purchase it for in online merchants today is PHP 27,644.43 – a 45% price drop.
  3. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9’s prices dropped to 30-31% after a year. One year after their release dates, both Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9 experienced a price drop of 30-31%. Samsung Galaxy S8’s price dropped from PHP 39,990 to PHP 27,761, while S9’s price dropped from PHP 41,990 to PHP 29,336.45. The average price drop of all three models (including Galaxy S10) after a year from its release date is 35%.

So, if you’re planning to purchase the Galaxy S20 at a lower price, it’s advisable to wait for 6 months to a year to maximize savings.

iPrice Group Research Methodology:

All Samsung Galaxy S models are selected as the flagship models, not including the plus models or any of their extensions (e.g., Samsung 10+, 10e). These flagship models were chosen according to the most searched on Google trends. The release date prices were obtained from Samsung’s official website (www.samsung.com) through communication with their product/customer service team. The price lists of the Samsung flagship models after 6 months and 12 months of release were taken from the iPrice database, aggregated from hundreds of merchants and online shops that sold brand new Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, and S10 models at the lowest price.
