Tonight Samsung just unveiled the latest Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ we got a chance see it early and here is our first impression.
The first thing we noticed is that in this series they have removed the metal housing of the camera at the back. Which we saw in the Galaxy S22 series and replaced it with a unified floating camera design that was first introduced in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Also, the antenna bands are now on both sides, and the design has been unified across all models, from the base model S23 to the S23 Ultra.
Now the front and back of the devices are made of recycled glass, protected by next-generation Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the frame is made of metal and armored aluminum.
The volume and power buttons are made of recycled plastic with metal bonding resin. The overall feel and design of the device is largely unchanged, with rounded corners and a textured back. But it is still IP68 rated.
The Galaxy S23 base model and Galaxy S23+ still have the same button placement, with the volume and power buttons on the right side and the speakers, ports, and SIM tray at the bottom. The in-display fingerprint sensor is still in the same position.
The display is snappy and responsive, but there is no option to change the resolution on the base model or the Galaxy S23+, only the choice to switch to adaptive or standard which is lowering the refresh rate down to 60Hz.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Philippines, with 8GB RAM and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
During the pre-order period, a free storage upgrade is available for the 128GB config and the 256GB config for the Galaxy S23+.
While the battery capacity has increased slightly, with the Galaxy S23 base model now having a 3900mAh battery and the Galaxy S23+ having a 4,700mAh battery.
Both devices will run on the latest Android 13 and OneUi 5.1 on top. Which Samsung also mentioned to have a 5-year software update support.
One cool new feature we liked is the ability to customize the home screen with a video background with your own video and a more flexible widget customization. There are also new features like creating stickers, a GIF meme maker, and custom emojis. Will deep dive more on the software features in our full review.
While the camera is still the same triple camera setup as the previous generation, with a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and 10MP telephoto camera. The front camera is 12MP.
Both can shoot 8K@30fps, but zoom capability is not available at this resolution.
The Galaxy S23 will have a 6.1-inch Full HD+ dynamic AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S23+ will have a 6.6-inch display same features as the base model. The Galaxy S23 will have 25W fast charging and the Galaxy S23+ will have 45W fast charging.
The devices will come in four color options: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.
There will also be additional cases to choose from for both devices. Overall the device is a freshlook from last year’s model. Let’s see how this devices will stack up in our full review so stay tune. Do you have things you want to see in our full review? Let us know in the comment down below.
