Samsung just unveiled its latest flagship devices, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, alongside the Samsung Galaxy S23, and the Galaxy S23+.
Let’s take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and what sets it apart from its predecessors.
From the outside, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra looks almost identical to the previous generation of the Galaxy S series. It has the same body structure, camera module design, button placement, and edge-curved display.
The only noticeable difference is the positioning of the antenna bands, which are now in a different location. Previously on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, two antenna bands are located on the right side of the camera module while now in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it is now located both left and right.
But technically the new Galaxy S23 Ultra is slimmer and has more curves on the sides. So subtle that most users won’t even notice.
In terms of eco-friendliness, this year the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra uses recyclable materials such as recycled glass for the front and back and ocean-bound plastic for the S-pen inner cover and speaker module. The volume and power buttons are made of metal bonding resin.
The device is also slim, and compact. It feels solid and premium thanks to the satin back that provides a comfortable grip and is less prone to smudging.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra also now has improved on its front and back glass, which are now made from the latest generation Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 but still has a curved edge though.
It also boasts a top-notch Quad HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate.
With the very limited time playing around with the device, we notice that the option to switch between a variable adaptive or standard display is still available plus you can adjust the resolution from HD+ up to WQHD+.
The front camera is still located at the top center underneath the glass of the device and has the option to hide it in the settings.
The quad camera system on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has been significantly upgraded with a whooping 200mp main camera, 12mp ultrawide, and two 10mp optical lenses. Although, the front camera has been downgraded to a 12mp lens, compared to last year’s 40mp front camera.
during the early test, we noticed that the 200mp mode has a loading time before it finishes the shot but this is subject to further testing once we receive the review unit.
Also, it is still worth mentioning that the stabilization when using the 10x to 100x zoom has significantly improved.
The camera also supports shooting in 8k@30fps footage, although zoom capabilities will only be available in full resolution.
The New Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will run on the latest Android 13 with OneUI 5.1 on top and is powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with two configs for RAM (8GB and 12GB) and a base storage of 256GB that can be upgraded up to 1TB.
The device has a 5,000mAh battery with 45w fast charging capability. If purchased during the pre-order period, customers can receive a free storage upgrade.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in four colors: Phantom Black, Cream, White, and Lavender.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a solid, premium device with improved camera capabilities and some new software features.
While it may not look much different from its predecessors on the outside, it is the upgrades on the inside that make it worth considering. Stay tuned for our full review for a more in-depth look at the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
