Whoever said foldable devices were just a trend, couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, in 2021 alone, a surplus of 6 million units was sold, upping the consumer demand three times over. So, it’s no wonder that Samsung is taking the leap to producing better and more versatile models at impressive speeds. And, if there’s any testament to the South Korean brand’s fervor for dominating the foldable device market, it’s the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G.
Sporting trendy colorways and a streamlined design for enhanced durability, is it time to make the flip? Let’s find out.
If there’s one word to describe the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, it’s stylish. Opting for less metallic hues compared to its predecessor, the Z Flip3 5G features a matte finish with only a small metallic accent for the cover screen and dual-camera punch holes – a welcome style overhaul for people like me who like to keep their devices clean and void of any fingerprint marks.
On the left side is the sim tray slot, while on the right is the volume rocker key and a power button that doubles as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
At the bottom are a USB Type-C port, primary microphone, and a downward-firing speaker. And, over at the top is a secondary noise-canceling microphone.
For the cover screen, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G now comes with a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display, which is roughly 4x larger than its predecessor, and a protective layer of Super Clear Glass with Gorilla Glass with DX. When flipped open, it sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 120Hz refresh rate. And, while the crease is still there, it’s now less noticeable, which makes the screen slightly more immersive and fluid. The bezels are also thinner when compared to the last generation model.
Up top is the punch hole style camera that is almost identical to the previous model, and the earpiece.
Located on right beside the cover screen are the dual rear-facing cameras with a 12 MP dual pixel AF (F1.8) wide camera and a 12 MP (F2.2) ultra-wide. Both of which can be accessed even when the device is folded – with the cover screen acting as a monitor.
As for the selfie camera, it sports a 10 MP (F2.4) camera that is only accessible when the device is unfolded.
As for hardware, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC with 8GB RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh dual battery.
Without a doubt, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is a spectacle of its own. Innovative and trendy to say the least, the new compact foldable device will retail starting at PHP 52,990 and PHP 56,990 for the 128GB and 256GB, respectively. Stay tuned for our full review to see how well the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G fares in our benchmark tests and real-world applications.
