SKK Mobile Silver, 5.7-inch quad-core under Php10K

We dropped by SKK Mobile’s concept store at SM Cyberzone in SM City Bacoor just recently and spotted their latest dual-SIM Android smartphone carrying a 5.7-inch HD display and a quad-core processor, the SKK Mobile Silver.

For those who are not aqcuainted, SKK Mobile is a new local mobile phone brand that offers a wide variety of feature phones and Android smartphones. The SKK Mobile Silver is their first and only quad-core device to date.

As for the design, it’s obvious that the Silver took a lot of inspiration from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 minus the stylus. We wanted to do a quick hands-on of the device, unfortunately SKK Mobile doesn’t have a working demo unit available at the time. But if you’re one of those who already bought or tried the device do share your experiences by hitting the comments below.

    I just got mine today and I’m very happy that this is what I bought instead of MyPhone Iceberg, which should have costed me 2k more. The output of the camera is clear. It is quite comparable to my Note 2, minus the Stylus Pen.

    Has anybody with this unit ever tried using the wifi direct function? I paired and connected my Silver with an S4 but they cannot seem to transfer files with each other. When I choose the photo or video I want to transfer, there is no wifi direct in the share option on the Silver. Can anybody help explain this and make it work? The wifi direct implementation seems different from Samsung where you can see wifi direct on the share option. Even then, sending from the S4 to the Silver does not work either. I hope the Silver wifi direct option will work just like other devices.

    Bought my unit last Monday. It was a great phone…too bad, biglang me lumabas na problem kahapon. Kusa syang nagrestart and would not load properly. Di ko ni-root or install other software since I know it would void the warranty. Sana factory defect lang cya and mapalitan agad. One comment on this phone as I’ve observed is medyo mahina ang speaker nya compare to other phones.

      kahapon, bibili na din sana ako. but, di natuloy kasi yung sd card ko na 32gb class 10, when i insert it, boot ok naman but after a few seconds bigla nalang nawala or di na niread sd card ko. tanong ko lang po if meron dito sa inyo may gumagamit ng 32gb sandisk class 10? at gumagana ba sa silver niyo? sayang kasi, gustong-gusto ko pa naman itong si silver tsk tsk.

    I’m going to buy this phone. kasi malaki. better for gaming, watching hd videos, maganda din magnet kasi malaki yung screen. tsaka affordable unlike branded phones. di naman nagkakalayo yung specs sa mga branded phones. di kasi kaya ng budget yung galaxy note 2. :))

    • Avatar for johnny doe johnny doe says:

      good job Gretzch! any phone with the MediaTek MT6589 chip is very smooth. i’ve tried cherry ohd 2.0 and i own a myphone a919i and both have superb performance. you may wanna buy on June 28th onwards, though, to take advantage of their promo (buying a Silver would give you a free SKK F1 phone).

  18. Avatar for johnny doe johnny doe says:

    Nakakatawa naman itong si Xeno. Sobra maka defend sa S3. Yan ang phone mo no, @Xeno? Lol. Nakagamit ka na ba ng Silver Xeno? Or ng GS3 at alam na alam mo na? Baka puro internet lang ang basehan mo. Lol. Depende sa needs yan. Kung ang gusto ni consumer A mas malaking screen for better media experience, they’ll say na better si Silver. If consumer B prefers a handy device, they’ll say S3 is better. Kasi when it comes to performance, real world usage di naman nagkakalayo performance nila. Solid ang Exynos 4412 with 4xA9 pero di papahuli si MT6589 with 4xA7. Plus MediaTek’s chip has the more updated SGX 544 than Exynos’ Mali 400. Try any MT6589 phone and you’ll know what i mean. Ok ba Xeno? Next time try mo muna yung mga device na kino comment mo ha. Hindi yung puro internet lang ang basehan ok?

    My only reaction, having an 8GB built-in storage is a No-No for android…since Android does not permit installation of apps into an external SD card…unless your phone is rooted.

    Critikim:

    Where did you buy your unit? That looks like a good store for after sales support.

    • Avatar for Critikim Critikim says:

      @Suigeneris

      Hello, I bought my unit sa “Flasher Telecom” – SM Bicutan Bldg B.

      Ito lang masasabi ko:

      A good choice for a cheaper cost. It depends on you nalang talaga kung anong prefer mong smartphone(s), by the time goes on, may bago at panibago na namang darating kasi. Ang S3 ng tita ko bili nya 32K tpos ngayon, 18K nlng. Kaya laki din yung difference.
      That’s why, I chose this phone over the branded one (well-known). Honestly wala akong pambili ng pang high-end phone eh, dapat nga mag Myphone or Cherry Mobile ako, pero laging nagtatalo yung dalawa, kaya nag SKK Silver nalang ako. Para maiba naman. “Quiet but helpful”. (for me ah). Let’s accept the fact na hindi magkakatulad yung specs ng smartphones, depende kasi sa target prospect nila yun. para may choices tyo. (Don’t forget to save some money and be satisfied to your gadget as initial investment. pag mayaman kana, bilin mo na ang lahat.

      Thanks for reading my opinion.

    Hello. I got mine last saturday. June 15. It’s a very superb smartphones, comparing to Galaxy note II, it’s quite competitive. My tita, told me, wow, talo S3 ko ah. wait ko yung tita kong isa pag uwi, kasi naka Note II sya. And then, we tried it here in our office, and my officemate were astonished by its performance. I really like the smoothness and the clarity of the camera. But a little cons regarding to the battery life when using full data access. It could only last 4hrs. But in stand-by time. I think more a day it can survive. Maybe because of the screen size that consume more power. By the way, my unit is still under observation. The store OIC told me to observe it first this week, then come back to them this coming saturday or sunday for the feedbacks. I don’t have any feedback nman talga except sa battery life. hahah/ sabagay, pag ANDROID kasi mabilis maka-drain ng battery. And good thing, they told me na pwede ko namang palitan yung unit kung hindi ako satisfied. Pwedeng same unit or ibang brand na. kung may change, ibabalik nila. walang kaso sa knila yun, parang yung satisfaction muna ng customer yung inuna nila.
    Yun lang, over-all OK sya sa akin. Hindi ko nga lang mabulsa, pero it looks so elegant. parang samsung galaxy note III na. hehehe.

    • Avatar for Critikim Critikim says:

      sorry! just to correct my sentence.

      Wow, red flag. Parang beta testing where you pay to beta test the gadget.

      I don’t want to pick a fight, instigate something or to disrespect your tita, pero hindi nito talo ang s3, lalo na ang gn2. I understand na baka over reaction lang yun, pero kung sakali seryoso yun, baka kasi may maniwala. Yung s3 up to now, e still one of the best android, na kahit ung mga flagship ng mga local brands ay hindi pa mapapntayan(although malapit na). Kung tutuusin sa size lang ng screen matatalo nito ang s3 e, e hindi naman lahat gusto ang phablet size. s3 4.8 in with gorilla glass 2 tapos super amoled pa. sa camera naman kung titingnan parang sobra kalamangan nito sa s3 pero marketing strategy lang naman yang mga pataasan ng megapixel sa camera. kahit sino tanungin nyo na marunong sa imaging at photography, sasabihin nila na there’s more to good images than the megapixels of the camera, may kailangan ibang iconsider like shutter speed,etc. at kahit sabihin pa nila ng mga chinaphone makers na 18m, for example, yung camera phone, minsan ang totoo pala e mga 12mp lang pala yun camera, tulad nung natuklasan dun sa oem ng starmobile knight na 18mp kuno. idagdag pa natin yung mga intangibles tulad ng durability nun product, service support ng brand, at para sakin, ang pinaka under rated na factor na kinoconsider ng iba sa pagbili ng smartphone, ang software support. ang s3 assured na ng samsung na hangang keylimeie version ng adroid e isusupport nila. tong sa skk ba isusupport kaya? Ang personal favorite ko pa na wala sa ibang smartphone, hangang ilan lang ba kaya nito na microsd card? ilan lang bang on board storage nito, at pwede man lamang ba itong kabitan ng 1tb hdd through usb otg kung malikt lang ung unang dalawang nabanggit? Marami pa ko naiisip na lamang ng s3, pero di ko na babangitin at humahaba na to. Sorry kung mejo nag rant ako, pero mejo nagliyab kasi yung mata at tenga ko nung nakita yun comment na maganda pa to sa s3. Marami pa naman bumibisita sa site na to, baka maniwala at madagdagan pa ang mga misinformed. Know the facts.

    • Avatar for kokorokoko kokorokoko says:

      @xeno: ur comment was a little bit out of the line. he didn’t tell that skk silver is better than gs3, it is only a simple reaction from his tita. lahat naman cguro tyo na pumupunta d2 sa site ni sir abe eh my common sense kya nga tyo ngbbasa ng mga review ng mga gadgets pra my idea tyo especially ung mga average person n sapat ung kinikta pro gs2 nla maexperience mga bgong technology. ska isa pa wag mging brand conscious most of the android devices ngaun mapalocal brand man o branded like samsung, htc, sony etc. eh pareho lng ang gmit depende nmn syo un kung pano mo imamaximize ung device na gmit mo. may gnote 2 k nga pinanglalaro mo lng ng candy crush so anung use nun. minsa kc intindihin muna ung binabasa bgo mgreact. peace bro.

    • Avatar for Critikim Critikim says:

      @Xeno

      at the first place hindi ko nga naman sinabing talo nito ang s3. ^^ may wow factor lang yung mga tao sa amin dahil nga sa elegant look at mala note II dating ng skk.

      @kokorokoko

      Ok lang yun, pero tama ka, kaya nga napunta tyo sa mga smartphone review sites para magkaroon ng idea.

      Anyway, I just found this. I think ito ang rebranded ng SKK Silver.

      hope na makatulong. (^_^)

    • Avatar for Xeno Xeno says:

      @kokorokoko bro, with all due respect, di ko sinabi na si Critikim ang nagcomment nun, kung ikaw e NAGBABASA din bago magreact, makikita mo na inacknowledge ko na yung tita nya nagsabi na talo pa ng skk silver un s3. kung mag cacandy crush ka lang din lang naman, wag ka na mag ganito, bumili ka na lang ng cm flare. ang punto ko lang e maraming tao ang bumibisita sa mga site tulad nito, pero may makita lang na magandang comment, paniwalang paniwala na agad. Ayaw ko lang may magrely masyado dun sa outrageous claim ng tita ni Critikim, dahil ako kung alam nya talaga gamitin yung s3, papakainin nun ng alikabok tong skk silver. Kaya kokorokoo, back to you ang comment mo, intindihin mo muna binabasa mo bago ka magcomment.

      Don,t get me wrong though, maganda din tong skk silver, actually may lamang talaga din siya sa s3, may dual sim, dual standby to na parehas 3g capable, at akin lang e kung may pipili between this and a low priced s3, kung kasya naman sa budget, i think the s3 is a no brainer, dahil “hindi talo ng skk silver ang s3”. may kasabihan nga, you get what you pay for.

    I own a unit and it is a very capable phone. The only bad thing I could say is the unit I got have a small air bubble in the LCD screen which I initially thought I could easily remove by re-installing the pre-installed screen protector. It turns out to be underneath a thin layer of the screen itself when I removed the protector and there is a tiny speck or dust particle in the middle of the air bubble which I believe is a product of the manufacturing process. I posted the situation in their FB page and I was told to visit their service center and have it checked by their technician. Will post the result of my visit to their service center once I’m back in Manila this week from a vacation in the province. I hope they replace the unit although I doubt it.
