These smartphones are the top of the line devices so both of them are already performing at their best, however, we will have to discuss their differences in each main aspect.
For the display aspect, The Note8 has a larger aspect ratio with a larger screen resolution and screen size. We also have to note that the Mate 10 Pro has an OLED screen display which is equivalent to what top-television displays have. However, it shows that the former gives a better viewing experience compared with the latter.
In terms of CPU and GPU, we cannot say for certain yet which has the better performing CPU since the Kirin 970 of the Mate 10 Pro has just been launched a month ago and that this will be the first time that we will be seeing it equipped on a smartphone. We can say that they will have a close fight since the architecture of it and the Samsung Exynos 8895 of the Note8 is somewhat similar. Both of them have a 10nm architecture which is the best architecture so far as of late. They also sport 4 x ARM Cortex-53 but the difference is that the LTE capabilities of the Mate 10 are better since it will also be the first that we will be seeing the LTE CAt.18 since the latter only has LTE CAt.16. As for the GPU, it appears that the Mali G72 MP 12 of the Mate 10 is better performing than the Mali G71 MP20 of the Note8. We will have to double check it once we get our hands on the former.
For their camera quality, we cannot say for certain yet which has a better camera and photo quality since we still do not have a Mate 10 Pro unit on our hands but with the device’s new generation of Leica lens technology as its frontline in its camera specs, we are confident to say that it will bring out good quality photos. For the Note8, we already have made a review of it and you can find the sample photos here .
As for their battery capacity, the Mate 10 Pro has a larger battery capacity with 4,000mAh compared with the 3,300mAh of the Note8. In order for us to know which has the better battery life performance, we will have to test the former first once we get our hands on it. However, we can also have an educated guess on which smartphone will have a longer battery life based on their specs on paper. It could be that the Mate 10 Pro will have a longer battery life since it has a smaller screen size, a lower resolution, and a larger battery capacity but once again, that can all be proven once we have tested it out.
We will have to check out some of their unique features as well so let’s get right into it. The Mate 10 Pro brings a new feature on the smartphone battle with its AI support capabilities in which there resides a Neural Processing Unit. This smartphone smart screen feature that turns your phone into a PC when connected by a single cable without a need for a dock. The Note8, on the other hand, has unique features like Iris Scanner, Heart-Rate Sensor, and Face Recognition Scanner. One distinct feature of the Note8 is the S-pen which is a stylus pen that has an IP68 dust and water resistance and serves as a drawing/navigation tool on the device.
In terms of overall performance, we cannot say for certain yet who has the upper hand but we can assure you that both of them already performs at the top-tier level of all the smartphones out there on the market.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is priced at EUR799 (~Php48,300) while the Samsung Galaxy Note8 is priced at Php49,990.
