As we can see from its specs alone, the Mate 10 is definitely an upgrade from the Mate 9. But first, let us check their differences in each aspect.
For the display, having a 16:9 screen aspect ratio with 2560 x 1440 resolution already proves that it has a better viewing experience for users. Another factor that will affect the viewing experience is its screen-to-body ratio which is 81.6% and it is higher than the Mate 9. With this, you can almost feel like you are watching without any borders on your device.
As for the CPU and GPU department, the Kirin 970 is Huawei’s latest chipset and aside from its performance, it also has a support for Artificial Intelligence (AI). Comparing it with the Kirin 960 of the Mate 9, we can only confirm its difference by testing it on benchmarking applications but we can safely assume that the former is better performing than the latter. As for the GPU, the Mate 10 carries a Mali G72 MP12 which is an upgrade from the Mali G71 MP8 of the Mate 9. Users will definitely not have problems when it comes to playing games on any of these smartphones since they are still top of the line in terms of both CPU and GPU.
In terms of camera quality, we have not yet tested the new generation of Leica lenses that the Mate 10 has since it just has been released. Once we get our hands on it, we will definitely test it out but for now, other than the lenses, their camera resolutions are the same. We made a review for the Mate 9 and took sample photos in which you can view here.
For their battery, it is apparent that they possess the same battery capacity with the same charging technology. Users won’t have any problems charging any of these smartphones as it has a SuperCharge technology which is similar to the QuickCharge or FastCharge technology on other brands.
We will have to give a special mention to the features of the Mate 10 that the Mate 9 doesn’t have. One notable feature is the former’s IP 53 dust and water resistance. Users can now have a fewer worry moments when going to beaches or any areas with water with this feature. Another one is the capability of the smartphone to become a PC once connected with a single cable. Because of the Kirin 970’s AI capabilities, this device can now have suggestive functions like dimming brightness for bedtime reading and other functions you normally do with it as the NPU learns your patterns.
For the overall performance, the Huawei Mate 10 is definitely an upgrade and has the upper hand in this comparison. We can expect more from this smartphone when it reaches our county.
The Huawei Mate 10 is priced at EUR699 (~Php42,300) while the Huawei Mate 9 is priced at Php31,999 (see price listing here)

Please verify again your spec’s for Huawei Mate 10. As far as I have read, it is Bluetooth v4.2, Cat 16 and NOT water and dust resistant.
