Even though there are a number of local phone brands in the Philippines, there’s no actual factory in the country that produces smartphones, until today.
Star Telecom Alliance Resources, Inc. (STAR, Inc.), the parent company of Starmobile, has just announced the start of its mobile phone production ventures in the Philippines.
According to STAR, Inc., it has started its assembly 20,000 units of the Starmobile Uno B208 feature phone in a facility located in Calamba, Laguna. This makes Starmobile the first Filipino brand to assemble phone locally.
Here’s an actual video of production sent to us by STAR, Inc.:
If things go well, we hope to see more feature phones or even smartphones get assembled locally too. And positively, we’ll soon have the capability to produce essential parts of a mobile phone to fully manufacture a device locally.
The Starmobile Uno B208 is a dual-SIM feature phone with an FM radio, basic camera with flash, expandable memory, flashlight, multimedia playback, and a battery life that’s said to last up to two days. It’s priced at just Php599.
