Starmobile UP Sense Unboxing, First Impressions

Starmobile has a new smartphone in the block that features a fingerprint sensor for cheap. For under just above Php4k, you get an Android phone that shares a similar look with the iPhone. Here’s our unboxing and initial impression of the Starmobile UP Sense.

The UP Sense comes in a slim slide-out box. Starmobile’s packaging are always pleasant and presentable. Inside we have unit itself plus the accessories that come with the purchase. This includes in-ear headphones, 5V 1A travel charger, microUSB cable, a free screen protector, and a silicon case. The removable battery doesn’t come installed, so you have to pop it in yourself.

The phone greatly resembles the current iPhone design, well at least in the front. The phone has a 2.5D glass on top of the 5-inch HD display. It’s bordered by a fair amount of bezel with the earpiece, front-facing camera, and a couple of sensors on top while a round home button sits below. The home button features a fingerprint scanner which works well so far.

The right-hand side is where the volume rocker and the home button are placed leaving the left complete voided of any buttons or even ports.

The bottom of the phone has six holes for the loudspeaker and another tiny one for the microphone.

At the top are the 3.5mm headphone jack and the microUSB port for charging and connectivity.

The back plate of the UP Sense has a woven texture to it and it’s removable to give access to the battery and card slots. You get two micro SIM card slots and a dedicated microSD card slot. The rear, of course, also has the main 8MP camera along with a triple-LED flash.

It’s powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with a Mali-400MP GPU. It’s got 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. Android 6.0 Marshmallow runs out of the box with a few apps pre-installed. You get 3.8GB of usable storage too. Initial performance has been pretty good but there’s not much to expect. We’ll know more about it in our review.
