After countless rumors abound the cyberspace, Apple took the wraps off the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, boasting water resistance, better hardware, and a few cosmetic tweaks from its predecessor.
A first for its flagship mobile series, Apple’s newest iPhone is arriving with a IP67 water and dust resistance certification, enabling to be used under water up to 3.2 feet under for 30 minutes. The iPhone 7 also features stereo speakers, for a richer sound experience.
The iPhone is powered by a quad-core A10 Fusion chip — two high-performance cores that can do the heavy loads, and two smaller high-efficiency cores that are aimed for lighter tasks, saving battery power in the process.
The home button is also re-engineered to feature multiple layers of touch sensitivity with the Cupertino giant’s Force Touch and Taptic feedback engine, enabling custom experiences. The 12MP camera is also tweaked to capture a wider range of colors, and low-light is made better with a f/1.8 aperture and quad-LED TrueTone flash.
The antenna bands for signal reception has also been changed to be placed at both top and bottom parts for a cleaner back. As reported earlier, it will come in five flavors — silver, gold, rose gold, and two new colors: matte ‘Black’ and a new glossy ‘Jet Black’ finish.
As expected, the 3.5mm was removed in favor of a sleeker and more consistent side frames. Apple reasons “courage” as its reason in doing so, citing that they can’t justify the use of a single-function port on their new phone. Apple Senior VP Phil Schiller noted that every feature on their iPhone are fighting for a space on the premium device, and thus the idea to release the wireless AirPods in lieu of the wired port as they are more bullish on the proposition.
