Built-in fingerprint scanners on displays have been finally unveiled by Vivo and Qualcomm at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Shanghai.
The ‘Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution‘ is made in collaboration with Qualcomm and was demonstrated running on prototype devices based on the existing Vivo Xplay 6 smartphones. Vivo claims this to be a first from a phone manufacturer.
Check out the demo video:
The tech is based on ultrasonic technology that allows the scanner to read prints even when not in direct contact. This application allows manufacturers to create full-screen phones like Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 but with a front fingerprint scanner.
No official date when we can expect this tech to be widely available among commercial devices but it’s definitely coming really soon.
