Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5 Plus Officially launched in China

Xiaomi officially launched the successor to their Redmi 4 series of smartphones, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus. These new devices have jumped ship to the 2017 trend and are now equipped with 18:9 aspect ratio displays. The devices will also feature the company’s new MIUI 9 out of the box.

The two devices differ in specs quite a bit. The Redmi 5 is equipped with a Snapdragon 450 processor while the Redmi 5 Plus is equipped with the more powerful Snapdragon 625. They’ll also have different screen sizes, battery capacity, and storage options. Other specs like the camera and overall structure are almost the same.

Speaking of the camera, the devices both sport a 12MP rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor and a 5MP front camera with soft-light LED. The star here, however, is not the camera themselves but rather the company’s Beautify 3.0 app. Xiaomi is touting that their new camera app helps in improving selfies without overblowing or removing face details.
