So what’s different between the Redmi Y3 and the Redmi 7?

  • Larger maximum RAM capacity
  • Larger maximum storage capacity
  • Higher front camera resolution

The Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7 have the same display setup with a notch design. The 6.26-inch screen is a great size especially if you are into watching videos or playing games. Another good feature is that both of them have a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which has high durability for scratches and cracks.

In terms of performance, they both sport the same Snapdragon 632 chipset with an Adreno 506 GPU. It means that they have the same capabilities in terms of gaming and daily tasks such as social media browsing, multitasking, and app navigation. The main difference, however, is that the Redmi Y3 sports a 4GB RAM variant which can handle more apps running in the phone at the same time.

There is no difference in the rear camera performance of both devices since they have the same specs. However, Xiaomi increased the number of megapixels in the front shooter to cater to consumers who are into selfies.

The battery capacity of both devices is also the same which means that they should have a close performance overall.

It seems that Redmi is going for different entry-level smartphone variants that don’t stray much when it comes to specs. As for the prices take a look at this:

  • Xiaomi Redmi 7 2GB + 16GB – PHP 5,890
  • Xiaomi Redmi 7 3GB + 32GB – PHP 6,490
  • Xiaomi Redmi Y3 3GB + 32GB – INR 9,999 (~PHP 7,500)
  • Xiaomi Redmi Y3 4GB + 64GB – INR 11,999 (~PHP 9,000)

If you are fond of selfies and a larger RAM and storage capacities, then go right ahead with buying the Redmi Y3. However, the company is yet to announce if this device will reach our shores anytime soon.

Love Xiaomi but they should discontinue the Y/S series. It just makes their smartphone line up confusing.
