Now that Xiaomi is set to release the Mi 3 to the public starting next week, a lot of people are looking at it as a local smartphone killer thanks to its high-end specs and aggressive price tag. But on paper, does it really have everything to obliterate local competition? Let’s find out by pitting the Mi 3 against local flagships in a spec battle below.
Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity
Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* Higher pixel density
* NFC
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php4,400USD 75INR 6,356EUR 71CNY 546 less)
Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity pros:
* Larger display
* Larger internal storage
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* Miracast
Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Starmobile Octa
Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php6,391USD 109INR 9,232EUR 104CNY 793 less)
Starmobile Octa pros:
* Asahi scratch resistant glass
* Larger internal storage
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* Wireless charging
Xiaomi Mi 3 vs MyPhone Infinity
Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* NFC
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php2,400USD 41INR 3,467EUR 39CNY 298 less)
MyPhone Infinity pros:
* Gorilla Glass 2
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* USB OTG
Judging from the pros listed above, the Xiaomi Mi 3 wins across the board for having the lowest price tag, largest battery, and the latest iteration of Android OS. However, it lacks some of the features that some Filipino smartphone consumers need such as Dual-SIM support, larger internal storage due to the absence of a microSD card slot, and a scratch resistant display.
To conclude, if you’re in a budget, the Mi 3 will get you the most bang for the buck. However, if you require the added features mentioned earlier and don’t mind shelling out a few grand more, then the local flagships are still viable options.

The lack of comparison between the MediaTek processors of local brands versus the Mi 3’s Snapdragon 800 bothers me. To me, that is the biggest selling point of the Mi 3 compared to these competitors, pricing aside.
roiji says:
Pipoy says:
aint no fight with this. all are junk that needs to disposed.
Rabbit-kun says:
if 16gb isn’t enough then wait for the 64gb to come :)
Pawix says:
bob ong says:
all the things you need to know about Mi3 is here http://www.mi.com/ph/
bias comparison, search muna bago magpost bobo mo.
Easy E says:
Tapos pag pinakita mo sa ibang tao Mi3 mo, wala silang alam kundi “just another china phone”. Wish me luck :D
Pawix says:
roiji says:
di naman siguro deterrent ang pagiging single-sim nito from potential buyers..
IMHO, hardcore (high end users) smartphone users are not dual-sim wielders..
reynan says:
hello naka gorilla glass kea ang mi3 .. google
Carl says:
Isn’t Mi3’s screen made of Gorilla Glass 3??

Romar says:
How about the fact that mi3 is packed with Snapdragon 800? I think that’s the main selling point of mi3 against its competitors. Devices with that sd800 costs twice to thrice as much. Also, It is still more powerful and has better support than mt6592.
Romar says:
** Devices that use sd800 cost ** LOL xD
neo says:
Ginoong VP says:
Looks like YugaTech is not doing his assignment.
Mi3 also has Gorilla Glass 3, f2.2 Lens Aperture, GLONASS, and USB OTG.
Also include the benchmark scores to see the REAL difference :p
gadgeteer says:
mark says:
gorilla glass po ang xiaomi try to google.
nameless says:
But I think, Sales ng Local Smartphone brands lang ang affected nito for now.
In the end, kanya kanyang preference lang yan.
mark says:
http://chinamobilemag.com/xiaomi-mi3-16gb-snapdragon-800-phone-review/ yan basahin mo yan mas nauna pa yan sa yugatech..tignan mo kung di ba gorilla glass 3 yan
kontrabida says:
Mr. Louie, gorilla glass ung Mi 3. Nakalimutan mo ata iligay?
RaM says:

Arj says:
Really confusing. The Chinese version of their site says it has gorilla glass 3 but the english version doesn’t mention it.. searching by google is no help at all, iba iba ang sinasabi kada site.. Ano ba talaga? Sana matanong ng Yugatech kay Hugo Barra ^_^
berkano says:
Seriously , lots of details have been missed by the author, Such a table can be easily sourced simply by googling, but it takes a real blogger/writer to actually flesh out the issues. A commenter already mentioned the glaring lack of comparison between Snapdragon 800 and MT6592 processors, considering that benchmarks show a great lead for Mi3
someone says:
One can argue that they don’t need the latest/fastest processor. Same thing with those who say they don’t need a dual sim capable phone.
You said it yourself, it takes a real blogger to flesh out the issues. So why would they rely on benchmarks taken from other sites?
berkano says:
You’re right, the processor is but one aspect. But when a phone with the clearly more powerful processor is priced much lower than the devices it is being compared with, it becomes a huge advantage.
I’m not saying they look at other sites, each of these cellphones have official press releases, websites, and specs right? They know how to google right? They could have at least created a single table with all the devices side by side. Besides, all the pros and cons the writer highlights doesn’t need a hands-on.
Bottomline, while we are happy that local companies have provided us with good value, it is clear that there are still better options out there. If they want to compete, they better rethink their strategy really quick. If I could make a suggestion, start with after sales service.
someone says:
Yes there are other options out there. The Mi 3 is one if you’re after kitkat, full hd, and a fast processor – all for less than 11k.
The advantage of having a better processor is only evident if you’re using demanding apps or games. In short, it’s advantage is relative to one using it. Someone who’s into playing demanding games might benefit from it, but those who just want to watch videos or browse the internet might see no “real” value from it. I do admit that the 11k offering for the Mi 3 is hard to resist.
With regards to after sales service, yes the local brands can do better. This is actually my question for Xiaomi since they’re a new player here in the philippines. How can they (Xiaomi and Lazada) honor DOA purchases? Atleast with phyiscal shops (not limited to local brands), it’s easy to return purchased items up to 7 days.
mx says:
Denephew says:
@someone
Now you have to defend your own ika nga booh wooh.
marco says:

someone says:
A comparison of pros?
Better to put a weight on the pros and see which set of pros come out on top.
This post seems to put pros on equal footing ..
It gives the impression that the comparison is skewed. Like it tries to ‘lift up’ the local flagships.
Just my two cents.
mark says:
it’s difficult to have a weighted comparison of pros of each phone because not everyone would agree that a certain feature is deemed more important than the other. Personally I can live without NFC and Gorilla Glass 2, but others prefer it over having dual sims. I don’t have to agree with what they came up with as a conclusion to the article, but I appreciate their effort in highlighting features unique to each phone presented.
someone says:
@mark: I agree. And I made a mistake. It should have stated that potential buyers should weigh for themselves.
I also mislead myself in the last part about ‘lifting up’ because I see the ‘Larger camera pixel count’ pro. I think most of us here know that pixel count is not everything in terms of picture quality considering I read in some comments in other articles (forgot if it was here or in unbox) that local brands extrapolate the pixel count.
berkano says:
A nice op ed regarding co-existtence, a better read IMO

I think price drops are already starting after Xiaomi’s price release. From Novo7 tech’s FB update 6 hours ago:
Zopo ZP980+ “Madness Sale for only 9,999.00 on June 25&26, 2014”.
“Madness” might mean limited stocks since Xiaomi will only be releasing 3000 units.
Gian says:
Il just wait for the tegra 4 version..16gb?nahh..
markz says:
a2d2 says:
The biggest issue for me is the single sim of Mi3. The display of Mi3 i think is gorilla glass already, not sure. But i read somewhere that it is.
Anyways, a dual sim variant will surely come out.
chrono says:
I want the Nvidia Tegra 4 version…

Snapdragon 800 paired with Adreno 330, Sony 13mp Camera, 3050mah Battery, Miui V5(Kitkat-based OS) and Full HD Display at this price? Wala nang usapan. Talbog lahat ng Local Brand dito.
Wala akong pakelam kung China phone man to.
Specs and price-wise. Walang tatalo dito! Kahit anong brand pa yan. Name it!
Too bad 3000 lang ang available of PH. Sana initial release lang nila yun. Btw, I’m not interested with this toy. Aantayin ko yung Mi Pad nila na first every Tegra k1-powered Tablet..
archie says:

jb says:
try to look xiaomi mi3s comparision with other known devices..Samsung Galaxy s5, iphone 5c, htc one m8,oppo find 7a, one plus one, etc..if mi3 isnt that powerful then it shouldn’t have been compared with this powerful devices..
arjae says:
xiaomi is also gorilla glass and usb OTG
vladimir says:
even the Redmi note and not the mi3 will be compare to local flagships phone i think redmi note still superior with this specs 8-Core MTK 6592 1.7GHz processor
5.5″ HD IPS display
3,200 mAh lithium-polymer battery
13MP rear facing camera | 5MP front facing camera and a price of only P6700.00. this must be a game changer.
