Created with a combination of Adobe Firefly, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Stock, and Adobe Illustrator, this remarkable dress allows wearers to change the outfit’s image with a mere button press or induce dynamic effects by moving, like creating water-like lines that splash across the dress.
The application of Adobe’s technology in fashion, showcased with this dress, opens up new possibilities for interactive and ever-evolving attire
The dress itself is a product of Project Primrose, featuring reflective light-diffuser modules for non-emissive flexible display systems. While initially designed for dresses, this technology is versatile enough to be applied to various items, including clothing, bags, picture frames, and more.
Project Primrose represents a transformative leap in how we perceive typically static objects. Despite its limited movement range, this ever-changing dress promises to make a profound statement, ensuring the wearer becomes the focal point at any event.
But Project Primrose wasn’t the sole technological marvel on display at Adobe MAX. The event also showcased new AI models for Firefly and Project Stardust, an object-aware AI engine capable of seamless image editing without dealing with layers.
Christine Dierk, the research scientist behind the dress, emphasizes its interactive capabilities that bring fabric to life.
Unlike traditional static clothing, Project Primrose allows for instant visual transformations.
Dierk triggered gasps and cheers from the audience by demonstrating the dress’s ability to change colors and patterns with a simple press of a button.
The knee-length, strapless dress comprises numerous small, scale-like screens that can dynamically shift between colors and patterns. Dierk showcased its versatility by changing the dress from cream to metallic silver, followed by various patterns like chevron stripes and diamond designs.
Co-host Adam Devine humorously remarked, “Red carpets are going to be way sassy.”
“Fashion doesn’t have to be static; it can be dynamic and even interactive,” said Dierk, envisioning a future where self-expression takes myriad forms through innovative clothing.
A clip of the presentation on TikTok garnered over 10 million views, with users expressing awe and drawing parallels to futuristic fashion seen in franchises like the Hunger Games.
