Alfa Romeo has announced the launch of their new compact SUV featuring a plug-in hybrid system, the Tonale.
The compact SUV is designed as a metamorphosis of Alfa Romeo, the company is looking ahead to the new era of connectivity and electrification. It features state of the art technology, software and electrification systems created to serve the brand’s DNA aimed at enhancing the driving experience, the customer experience and protecting residual value.
The new Tonale is made in Italy, at the company’s revamped Giambattista Vico plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, one of the most advanced production plants in the automotive industry. The Tonale is the first car on the market that comes with an NFT digital certificate.
It features an all-new infotainment system, with two large Full TFT screens totalling 22.5-inches that is designed to offer over-the-air updates and integration with Amazon Alexa. The vehicle offers two levels of electrification, a hybrid and a plug-in Hybrid Q4, developed to guarantee best-in-class performance. The new 48-volt hybrid propulsion system can propel the wheels even when the internal combustion engine is turned off.
The Tonale will have two powertrains, a 256HP gasoline only engine and a 272HP plug-in hybrid. The gasoline engine is a 2.0-liter engine that products 295lb-ft of torque and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission system. The PHEV system utilizes a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a six speed automatic, a 90-kilowatt rear-axle electric motor, and a 15.5kWh battery pack. Alfa Romeo says the combo offers 30 miles of EV range.
No specific pricing details have been revealed about the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale.
