Along with the AMD Ryzen, 7000 Series launches are the AMD Socket AM5 and AMD 5 Motherboards. This new AM5 socket for the AMD Ryzen 7000 series was teased with the main highlight of switching from a PGA to an LGA-based socket giving the AM5 a 1718-pin LGA socket giving it up to 230W socket power delivery headroom. For those wondering about compatibility, coolers from the AM4 sockets are compatible with the AM5 motherboards, but other features like the DDR4 memory do not have backward compatibility.

The new lineup of motherboards announced will consist of the X670 Extreme, X670, and the B650. The highest tier offers support for two PCIe 5.0 slots, and one m.2 NVMe SSD port. The standard X670 motherboard will be equipped with various features depending on the OEM partner like ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI. Note that the PCIe 5.0 will not be available on the B650 and instead will use the PCIe 4.0 slots.

The AM5 lineup of motherboards is equally interesting. AMD announced three different options: the X670 Extreme, X670, and the B650. The X670 Extreme is the highest tier and will support two PCIe 5.0 slots and one M.2 NVMe SSD port. Standard X670 motherboard feature sets will vary depending on different OEMs. But the B650 won’t make use of PCIe 5.0 at all. Instead, it’ll use PCIe 4.0 slots, making it the cheapest option out of the three.

Some brands have released an X670E version of the AM5 motherboards along with their PH SRPs.
