Apple is utilizing 3D printers for their Watch Series 9 models. Instead of the large metal slabs that is used in their traditional manufacturing, this would use less of that and reduce time as well.
Apple uses binder jetting which lets the company print out an outline close to the shape through a powdered substance. Heat and pressure would then squeeze the material and refine it with milling.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that Apple Watch Ultra’s second-generation will have 3D printed parts such as some titanium parts would be printed.
With 3D printing, this is said to not only improve the manufacturing time of devices, but also reduce the costs as well. Should the 3D prints come out successfully, more devices can utilize this as well.
