Apple iPad 2024 lineup: OLED, M3 on the Pros, larger 12.9” iPad Air

It’s been a year of no new iPad releases from Apple and consumers may have to wait until next year for new ones. According to tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will introduce M3-powered OLED iPad Pro models alongside a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air in 2024.

OLED iPad Pro

Kuo predicts that two OLED iPad Pro models are scheduled for mass production as late as Q2 next year. The said OLED panels will adopt LTPO backplanes—the same tech used on iPhone 15 Pros—improving display performance and power consumption.

These upcoming models will equip Apple’s cutting-edge M3 chip and will have “improved form factor designs.”

Larger iPad Air

As for the iPad Air, Kuo says there will be a larger, all-new 12.9-inch variant coming alongside the 10.9-inch.

The 12.9-inch will feature an Oxide backplane—the same spec as the current mini-LED iPad Pro—bringing better display performance than the existing 10.9-inch iPad Air using an a-Si backplane.

New iPad Air models are lined up for mass production in Q1 2024.

2024 iPad mini, iPad (11th Gen)

The more affordable iPads are also on the horizon. The new iPad 11th generation and iPad mini will begin mass production in the second half of 2024.

Previous report claimed that new iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini in the coming months. However, with the new forecast, this seems unlikely.

Kuo further mentioned that the mass production, specifically of the iPad mini gets delayed until 2H24.

Last November 30, Apple held a surprise launch event for the new M3 MacBook Pros and iMac. Let’s wait and see if the Cupertino giant will make another surprise as 2023 ends.
