Apple’s rank on the Global smartphone shipments for Q2 2019 has gone down to fourth place according to a smartphone intelligence service company.
Based on the IHS Markit company, smartphone shipments declined to 331.2 million units in Q2 2019 which is 3.6% in a decrease from Q2 2018. Only four brands namely Samsung, Huawei, OPPO, and TCL Alcatel have increased its year-over-year growth during this quarter.
“The Huawei ban wasn’t in effect for the entire quarter, having been announced right in in the middle of the three-month period on May 15. As a result, the impact of the ban on Huawei was limited. The company shipping 58.7 million smartphones in the second quarter globally, down less than 1 percent from 59.1 million units in the first quarter and up 8 percent from the second quarter of 2018. Huawei’s market share rose to 18 percent in the second quarter, up 2 percentage points from one year earlier,” IHS Markit
Apple has gone down to the fourth place with a 14.6% decline in shipments equating to the loss of a 6-million unit when compared to Q2 2018. The company also declined in revenue by 11.8% due to increasing trade-in promotions in many markets.
Samsung remained in first place with an increase of 4.3% in shipments while Huawei and OPPO reach second and third place, respectively.
“OPPO had a successful quarter, with shipments rising 13 percent to 36.2 million units, up from 31.9 million units during the same period last year. The company has been a key partner to carriers in Europe during the rollout of 5G networks. Even without significant market share in many of European markets, OPPO is demonstrating its value to European carriers and is setting itself up for more growth this year.”
