Apple has just announced that they are offering a repair service for 13-inch MacBook Pro units that are affected by a display backlight issue. The service is free of charge.
A number of 13-inch MacBook Pro models have been affected by backlight issues. The units exhibited behaviors such as:
- Display backlight continuously or intermittently shows vertical bright areas along the entire bottom of the screen
- Display backlight stops working completely
Apple has confirmed that the models were sold between October 2016 and February 2018. Units eligible for the service program are as follows:
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
Apple has stated that apart from the mentioned models, no other MacBook Pro models are part of the program. To avail of the free service, users can visit an Apple Authorized Service Center and staff will have the MacBook examined and to verify if it’s eligible for the repair program. Users must backup their data before bringing the unit to the service center.
If a user’s MacBook has been affected by the issue and they previously paid to have the display repaired, users can contact Apple about a refund.
