Apple’s big September event just kicked off and the first to hit the limelight is the Apple Watch Series 4. It brings with it a bigger screen and a whole lot of new watch faces.
First up, Apple stretched the display to fit the watch’ body. There are two sizes that are 35% and 32% larger than their predecessors. Apple is also adding in different kinds of watch faces, with the most important ones showing a lot more information to the forefront. For a little more flair, there are three new ones with different animations — Flame, Water, and Vapor.
The crown of the watch also received a redesign, it now has haptic feedback and a new look. The microphone was repositioned for better audio and reduced echo. On the hardware front, we have the new S4 chipset with a 64-bit dual-core processor. It will also come with watchOS 5, the series’ new OS.
The Series 4 is bringing in new features that are targeted on health. Particularly, fall detection, Low heart rate notification, atrial fibrillation detection, and an electrocardiogram (ECG). This makes the new Apple Watch the first ever over-the-counter ECG device. The watch will be available in three colors — Gold, Silver, and Space Black stainless steel.
The Apple Watch Series 4 is priced at $399 (~Php 21,478) for the GPS version and $499 (~Php 26,861) for the cellular one. Pre-order starts September 14 and availability is on September 21. watchOS 5, on the other hand, will become available on September 17. With the new series coming in, the Apple Watch Series 3 is receiving a price drop. The previous gen watch will now be priced at $279 (~Php 15,018) starting today.
