Mayor Tomas Osmeña has announced that Cebu City will soon launch the Philippines’ first multi-route seaplane airline
According to his post on his official Facebook Page, Mayor Osmeña said that, after months of discussion with an investor, the seaplane airline will soon happen in Cebu. The first route will be from South Road Properties (SRP) To Lakawon Island in Negros, with Malapascua likely to be the second. Dry runs are now being conducted.
Osmeña said that promoting Cebu as an access point for other parts of the country will boost international and domestic tourism, as well as encourage development in the countryside.
“There are only two major points of entry into the Philippines: Cebu and Manila. If we can show that coming through Cebu is easier and more attractive, we benefit even from the tourists who just pass through, and in many cases, we benefit even more because many do decide to spend a few days here,” Osmeña said.
