China is proposing a rule to restrict the time users under the age of 18 use a smartphone. They may only use their devices up to two hours a day.
Minors in China will not be on smartphones as much as the country’s regulators have thoughts on implementing a rule to limit their time on their devices.
This is to prevent children and teenagers from having an addiction to their devices. This coincides with China’s rule of limiting minors’ time to playing online video games to less than three hours a week.
Should this rule be implemented, smartphones are required to have a “minor mode”. This allows guardians to monitor what their kids view on the internet and show content based on their age.
The rule states that kids under 8 years of age can only use phones for 40 minutes a day, eight to fifteen years-old are up to an hour, and sixteen to seventeen year-olds have up to 2 hours a day.
