The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has said that it will push for laws that will regulate social media and go against the use of trolls during the campaign period.
In a report by Inquirer.net, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia told ANC that the Comelec is powerless to monitor social media because of the absence of the law regulating it, and that’s why it will push for social media regulation in the next Congress.
Garcia also said that it will also urge Congress to pass a law against the use of trolls, especially during the campaign period.
He also said that anybody who will be victimized by trolls can file cases in relation to cyber libel, but it will be very difficult to prove and pinpoint the liability of the individuals involved.
