DOLE to provide financial aid for displaced workers

According to an article by the Philippine Star, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be providing financial aid to workers displaced by COVID-19.

According to the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), 6,000 workers have been displaced as businesses have shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To help workers in need, DOLE has set aside a budget of PHP 2USD 0.03INR 3EUR 0.03CNY 0.25 billion for financial assistance. Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez said that workers may choose not to report to work and use their leave credits during the quarantine period. Moreover, those that have to undergo a mandatory quarantine, but have exhausted their leave credits will be provided financial assistance by DOLE.

The DOLE program is open for all workers, whether they’re no work, no pay workers, contractual, or regularized. While the guidelines have not yet been set, Benavidez said that the DOLE program would provide qualified workers with a monthly subsidy.

TUCP has also asked the government to provide discount caravans that will allow low paid workers access to cheaper food.

isa po kong freelance laborer ng dahil sa covid ipinahinto ng may ari yung trabaho namin papaano po para maka avail ng financial support eh walang wala na po ako ngayong hawak na pera nagamit ko na po yung last na sinahod ko

Good eve po ako po ay isang seaman fitter po ako,pinauwi po ako ng ship owner ZEABORN SHIPMANAGEMENT..Noong 03feb 2020 sa dahilan na ililipat daw nila ako sa ibang barko po nila soonest as possible yon ang nakasaad sa msg.doon po sa barko. I embark the ship last 07dec 2019 and disembark 03feb 2020 less than 2mons but my contract was 4mon. Then 18feb 2020 i signed another contract but until now i didn’t received any compensation from my company on my previous contract as per POEA contract i am entitled for compensation di ba po???
