Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has partnered with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) to implement the Smarter Philippines Through Data Analytics R&D Training and Adoption (or SPARTA) program.
In a report written by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the SPARTA program aims to train 30,000 individuals on data science and analytics. Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Pena said that the people who will undergo the program are people from the government, academe, and people who are working in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. He also assigned the task of choosing trainees to DAP.
Dela Pena recognized the threat of AI to the BPO industry, hence they need further training to maintain their competitive edge. He also wants other government agencies to have a substantial background in data analytics.
DOST has allocated a budget of PHP 50.84 million for the program, with PHP 16.67 million allocated for the first year. The program would start as soon as DOST releases the funds, which they hope would be before the year’s end.
