Last year, we reported that PAGASA is getting an IBM supercomputer to help in weather forecasting in the Philippines. Fast forward to the present, the IBM Blue Gene supercomputer is up and running through the Department of Science & Technology (DOST).
The Blue Gene/p Supercomputer
The supercomputer arrived last November and has been tested since January. It now enters operation upon the recent opening of the Philippine Genome Center, Core Facility for Bioinformatics at U.P. Diliman. It is expected to bring local researching to the next level as it will not only focus on bioinformatics; PAGASA and NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) will be utilizing it too just as reported, processing data that looks years into the future.

Hopefully this helps the government in predicting the weather with the help of the people in project NOAH led by Dr Lagmay.
why they need to spend on so expensive ibm systems kung pwede naman gawing open source eh di mas tipid pa
BOBO.INUTIL.DONATION LNG YAN.DAMI MO PANG ARTE.SA TINGIN MO B MAKAKAMURA TAYU KUNG GAGAWA TAYU NG SARILI NATENG GANYAN,FROM SCATCH?EH SA R&D P LNG MADAMI NANG MAGAGASTOS.
ayan tuloy, nasirmonan ka.. basa2 din po..
Wut? These supercomputers are not like your common desktop/laptop computers. It can deal with heavy tasks such as calculating a possible path for a storm (those are vector fields described with large amounts of data).
ang gagaling niyo!!! bravo!! clap clap clap!
If those Mainframes are running Linux or Unix with a price tag of $500,000 (or maybe even more), then count me in! BTW, If have a Server Farm this big, I would put them in Norway or Iceland.
sawakas meron na ding super computer na latest. spec kaya nito?
pasaway mode on..
sa ibang site pa yan
“..but will it run Crysis?”
pasaway mode off..
Yes! The future is now for PH!
Specs/ Config nito? This is nice, at least for their researches.
