Epic Games is set to acquire the independent music storefront Bandcamp noting that the former will be keeping their operations as a standalone marketplace and music community.
Epic states that Bandcamp will be playing an important role in Epic’s vision to build out a creator marketplace ecosystem for content and entertainment.
On the other hand, Bandcamp co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond announced that the core deal for artists would not change in the near future.
“The products and services you depend on aren’t going anywhere, we’ll continue to build Bandcamp around our artists-first revenue model,” Diamond wrote. “You’ll still have the same control over how you offer your music, Bandcamp Fridays will continue as planned, and the Daily will keep highlighting the diverse, amazing music on the site.”
Behind the scenes, Epic and Bandcamp will be working hand-in-hand to push merchandising and payment options, mobile applications, and live streaming among other features.
