Exynos 1580 chip announced by Samsung

The Exynos 1580 chipset has been unveiled. This is a mid-range chip that will most likely power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A56. Similar to its predecessor in the Exynos 1480, it will offer sustained performance.

This new chip has significant upgrades as it’s based on Samsung’s third-generation 4nm EUV FinFET process technology. It’s built on a new node with ARMv9 CPU cores and twice the GPU hardware.

The CPU now has three clusters, headlined by a prime Cortex-A720 core that clocks up to 2.9GHz. It also has three big Cortex-A720 cores (2.6GHz) and four small Cortex-A520 cores (1.95GHz).

Meanwhile, the GPU is based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. It now features an extra Work Group Processor compared to the Exynos 1480. Samsung notes that the maximum performance went up by 37 percent.

The chip also has an NPU that delivers 14.7 TOPS of performance with an increased cache capacity of 2MB. Further, it now supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

For connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4, and 5G. The chip supports up to 1080p resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. For optics support, it can handle up to 200-megapixel cameras (or dual 32-megapixel shooters at 30 fps). It can record videos in 4K at 60 fps as well.

Again, the Exynos 1580 is slated to arrive next year with the release of the Samsung Galaxy A56. However, it could also be powering tablets at some point. With how successful the Samsung Galaxy A55 18 was, we’ll be sure to update readers should we gather more details.
