Facebook has rolled out a tool called “Off-Facebook Activity” to its users. The tool was first tested in Ireland, South Korea, and Spain.
According to Facebook, the “Off-Facebook Activity” tool lets its users monitor and manage the third-party apps and websites linked to their Facebook accounts. Through the tool, users can “clear history” between their profiles and the third-party platforms. Facebook has been collecting data from its users to serve them relevant ads, and essentially tracks and maps out a user’s internet viewing history, even when they’re currently not on the social network.
Upon opening the Off-Facebook Activity tool, users will various websites and apps tied to their profiles. These apps or websites have sent data to Facebook after an individual has visited or logged into them. Though the “Manage Your Off-Facebook Activity” option, individuals can select a website or app and “turn off” or disconnect their profile from it. While it’s “disconnected”, Facebook will still collect data however, it won’t be tied to a user’s Facebook ID anymore.
As for the “Clear History” option, Facebook will then log the user out of any third-party apps they used to log into Facebook. Under the “Turn off future activity option”, users can force Facebook to not connect any of the collected data to their account and will not be able to login to any third-party apps using their account. However, Facebook will still continue to collect data.
The “Off-Facebook Activity” is now available worldwide and can be found in the Settings panel, under the “Your Facebook Information” tab.
