Facebook has just announced that it will launch Dating, its own romantic relationship app, during the company’s annual F8 developer conference.
The service, meant to rival those of existing apps such as Tinder and OkCupid, boasts of letting users create a separate profile entirely for the service. It will also use a special algorithm to match you to potential dates based on mutual friends, preferences, and things in common, and you’ll be able to unlock more potential matches when you join groups or attend events on the main Facebook site, like local events or concerts. Your friends won’t see the separate profile you’ll make in Dating, and you’ll get a separate inbox with all your matches that don’t feature image or link sending.
Dating is said to not have any targeted ads that the social media company has been criticized for following a Cambridge Analytica scandal earlier this year, and says that it will start testing the service in the coming months.
