GCash Official Statement on Account Deduction and Alleged Hacking

Related Stories:

Reports of GCash users getting unauthorized deductions from their accounts and transferred them to an East West bank account ending 5239.

Gcash today has issued an official statement regarding this incident.

Official Statement

Some customers may have experienced a deduction in their GCash account yesterday. We extended our scheduled maintenance to investigate and determined that no hacking occurred.

Any deduction from a GCash account will be adjusted before 3:00 PM today.

We wish to further assure the affected customers that their funds remain safe and secure. We would also like to remind customers never to share their OTP and MPIN.

It looks like GCash users indeed had their accounts deducted for no apparent reason. GCash promised that the amount will be reversed by 3PM today. However, GCash has not offered any explanation as to how these deductions happened, except that it was not due to any hacking incident.
